I tried reading Tarkin last year and it was dire. I can't imagine reading novelisations of the films.
I love Star Wars but, especially after seeing the most recent trilogy, I feel like a lot of my adoration comes from KOTOR and the time I spent exploring that universe.
I do really enjoy the original films but not quite as much as most fans, I feel.

See, the problem was reading something that had been rushed out after the Disney acquisition and hoping for something great. Plenty of the novels within the first year suffered from that. Even A New Dawn - which was made exclusively for the new canon stuff (being a tie-in to introduce two of the major Rebels characters) - had such a feeling with it. It was the year where writers played things too safe as they adjusted to not being able to draw on the massive wealth of lore of what once had been a part of the universe. The novelisations are pretty good for everything released since that canon wipe, and even those before the wipe (not counting those of the originals which barely gave anything other than a strict retelling of the film) were great to read. As I've said, the Revenge of the Sith novelisation hits the execution of that story right.

I thought A New Dawn was really good, personally.
Try reading Lost Stars, Lords of the Sith, or the fast multiplying Thrawn books.

Just about to watch this.
No idea about anything that happens.
Probably due to the response on here not particularly excited about it.
Overall Id probably say I preferred TFA but I did see the merit in TLJ.

Released test footage from 2010 of the cancelled Star Wars TV show "Underworld," which was to take place in the lower levels of Coruscant. The series was set after the events of Order 66. The video game "1313" was to be a tie-in of this series. Due to the immense cost of shooting the series, as well as the selling of Lucasfilm to Disney, "Underworld" was delayed and eventually cancelled.
This footage was produced by Stargate Studios (whose VFX resume includes Doctor Who, The Walking Dead, The Orville) in partnership with Lucasfilm. The VFX technology displayed in the making-of portion is Stargate Studios' impressive real-time rendering Virtual Backlot Live technology.
