Someone on the Reddit thread said when the movie came out they saw the broom kid getting harassed on instagram. The broom kid! Jesus wept.

Why do films have such odd working titles? Why not just call it Episode XI or something. I know sometimes it’s done to hide the movie they are making or its real name but it’s not exactly a big secret that this is episode 9. They can still release the full film name at a later date.

The Star Wars fan community on social media has to be one of the most toxic around, the Star Wars accounts posted a 'Happy Birthday Kathleen Kennedy' message and the comments section was full of abuse. Rian Johnson got a ridiculous amount of abuse and even writers of new canon novels (like Chuck Wendig) have had a torrent of abuse directed at them on Twitter.

As I've said I'm not a huge fan of the most recent films and I don't love the direction Disney are taking Star Wars in but that doesn't mean I feel the need to abuse the creative team on social media. I also recognise that the new Star Wars films aren't about just appealing to the older generation of fans but also about appealing to a new generation, I might not particularly like Finn/Rey but kids growing up with these films are idolising them just as much as I idolised the original characters. It's a shame so many fans of the franchise don't seem to get that and are instead just acting like an entitled bunch of children.

Well this is hardly new when you think about it. The kid who played Anakin Skywalker went a bit nuts in real life because of the criticism, and that was before the internet became mainstream. Same with Wil Wheaton for Wesley Crusher.

Time has moved on, but nerds, nerds never change.

It's just a code name, like Dolphin or Revolution. They're used everywhere all the time.

I like Rose. :( Why do so-called Star Wars "fans" have to be such toxic gooseberry fools toward perfectly good people?

Rose is a terrible character in a terrible movie, but the actress playing her shouldn't get gooseberry fool, that's just idiotic. Not surprised at all though, the internet is the home of the shouty idiot.

Yes, the comedy was overdone in TLJ, particularly the opening scene, fine, whatever, but it hardly killed it. Goodness me.

I think his points about it ruining the tone of the film are completely valid. The comedy is not only bad and unfunny, but the tonal shifts are completely jarring and stop you caring about the story and getting invested in the characters.

Idiot was a legal and psychiatric category of profound intellectual disability, where a person's mental age is two years or less, and he or she cannot guard himself or herself against common physical dangers. Along with terms like moron, imbecile, and cretin, the term is now archaic and offensive.

Taf defends the girls but attacks the mentally disabled. He just isn’t woke.

I unsurprisingly agree with all the points made in that video. The comedy was rubbish, but worse than that it ruined the tone of the film. I thought the prequels really struggled with this as well, you’d have moments of darkness followed or preceded by slapstick nonsense and terrible one-liners. Stop getting Star Wars wrong!

I think this is why I hate The Phantom Menace the least with the prequels. It's a far lighter film than the other two, so the slapstick doesn't feel as out of place.
