I’ve read some supposed leaks of the storyline. If true it may well kill Star Wars! It sounds like terrible fan fiction. May well be nonsense but the worrying things I’m hearing suggest there may be some truth to it.

I just went on the hunt and found the supposed leaks. If true then.... :dread:  .... :dread:

*edit* On the plus side the "debate" will certainly be entertaining if any of what I just read rings true.

Yeah I mean I hated the last Jedi but in comparison to what I read it sounds like a masterpiece.

So that's why all of review sites were saying Last Jedi was the best film yet. Rise of Skywalker destroys every other film in the franchise and makes them unwatchable.

Regarding people's low opinions of TLJ, recall that opinions on ESB were pretty unfavorable at the time, too. Not many liked the ending, there were TIE Bombers "dropping" bombs just as in TLJ, the main cast stepping out into what they believed the cold vacuum of space in the asteroid wearing just a breath mask, etc. There was a huge backlash against the Vader as father revelation.

Perhaps, but let us not forget that those people are insane and should have never been allowed near a movie theatre again.

Having now watched TLJ ( ) I finally decided to catch up with the Rise of Skywalker (that title :dread: ) trailers....

Hmm. This is just going to be one big strawberry float You to TLJ and the interesting direction it tried to set things in isn't it?

This new trilogy has so far been one big strawberry float you to the whole franchise. It really is quite rubbish when you get down to it. Thankfully the OT, Clones, Rebels, Rogue, Solo, even the prequels, will always be there. Should The Mandalorian turn out top trumps then there's no reason to even acknowledge the new trilogy exists outside of some other naff Star Wars projects - ie Ewok films, Holiday Special.

Funnily enough I did this last night. I think this is the first of the new trilogy I'm not actively anticipating. The Palpatine return is so strawberry floating unoriginal, as is the Death Star making it's strawberry floating 4th appearance in 6 films, and I just don't trust Abrams not to make another nostalgia-soaked fairytale.

I'm really looking forward to it and hoping it is brave enough to correct the trajectory set by TLJ.

I’m not really looking forward to it. I think they’re going to try and correct TLJ and the whole thing will end up being a whole mess.

The rumours I’ve seen on the storyline don’t at all sound good.

There's nothing brave about pandering to the insular nature of those who disliked TLJ. It's literally the opposite of brave: it's cowardly; it's safe.

"The FANS didn't like the character diversity, new ideas, and move away from the obsession with the Skywalker line."

"OK, bring back the old white guy villain, the Death Star, all the same plot points we've used before... and put Skywalker in the title."

He's trying to bait me into a rant. It's all a bit old hat at this point.

But yeah, I have a feeling any and all narrative cohesion is going out the window. Read a headline the other day that said something about the film 'exploring who Rey really is' like, you know, the last film wasn't almost entirely about that.

He pops up with that c&p reply every time someone criticises RoS.

So glad JJ is directing this after the disappointment of the last jedi, which almost undone everything. I hope that this is the end and we don’t get a new trilogy for a good few years. In a way the last one could really taint or enhance what lucas did. It really is going to be a big movie and think it will succeed in keeping the fans satisfied.

Can I just point out this is the "NO SPOILER" thread and that Taf post spoils potentially two big things that people wouldn't know about if they're avoiding the trailers? :shifty:

Spoiler suggests that'll it'll spoil your experience, though.

You're best off knowing that potential gooseberry fool going in, so as to soften the disappointment if it does indeed turn out to be the case.

Ak, my bad. I didn't know we were including trailer reveals. I'll spoiler them now.
