Predictions for episode VII:

*We don't see Luke until the very end
*Han solo dies
*Simon pegg cameo in there some way
*New characters are likeable
*Death Star MK3

Can't wait to see if I'm right :toot:

Someone clearly wasn't thinking about the time that's passed since the previous thread was created.

The Watching Artist wrote:"or does she only have enough fuel for one space resurrection?"

It's certainly the most I've had to think about fuel in a Star Wars film.

People hate new Star Wars films with such a passion, but in ten, twenty years, they'll be almost as beloved as the originals. The originals are aided by the fact that by the time the prequels came out, they were already solidly in rose tinted yesteryear territory, and thus almost unassailable in their perceived greatness.

People just need to get over themselves - they are are never going to compete with films of, say, Blade Runner's calibre, nor are they supposed to.

Rose tinted about the original trilogy? I've watched the original trilogy, the prequels and the new films in the last year and there is nothing rose tinted about it. Hope, Empire and Jedi are not only still great movies, they're still easily the best of of all the Star Wars films. It's not even up for debate, they just are.

Just seen Solo. I enjoyed it! Pleasantly satisfied. Nothing amazing but a good ride.

Poor opening weekend for Solo, didn't get anywhere near Rogue One's takings.

My feeling as that the poor box office is simply down to the release date as discussed before. Very bad timing by Disney. The reviews have surely been good enough to ensure a good opening. I'm confident this would have done better at Xmas.

Yeah it is way way to close to the last one daft idea doing it now it should be out in November December time and get that film you look forward to for chrimbo, although I imagine this means it will release of dvd at Christmas so will make more money there so maybe they are sacrificing cinema taking for disk takings.

Saw this in IMAX 3D today, very impressed (wonderful attention to detail, fantastic lighting, great action, great acting), immensely enjoyable and really made me want to see more of Ehrenreich as Solo, and Glover as Lando.

I cannot tell you how much I want to see Solo become a duology or trilogy. There are plenty of shady characters they could include as antagonists, or even protagonists alongside Solo himself. Lots of potential.

That said, there was one big thing that was a whole big ball of ambivalence to me.

They won’t be giving up the December release. It will be December for a “numbered” Star Wars and then May will be the spin offs.

They have another trilogy planned after this one with the guy who directed TLJ and the Game of Thrones show runners I think have 5-6 Star Wars movies planned. I would imagine those two sets of Star Wars movies will be December alternate releases.

Ugh, I hope not. I'd rather they do one trilogy at a time and maintain the standalone films on the off years. I'd love a couple about the bounty hunters - Fett, Bossk, Bane etc.

Saw Solo last night, really wasn't impressed.

My biggest concern going in was about the actors portraying both Han and Lando but I was pleasantly surprised, think they both did a great job. The issue was the plot, it just felt so bland and was completely lacking in any excitement, it addressed things about the character of Han which I really didn't need, or want to know and it was at least half an hour too long.

Probably the worst film in the franchise for me, it never reached the lows of the prequels at their worst but at the same time it lacked any of the high points which drag those films up.

After this and The Last Jedi I have to say I'm feeling quite down on Star Wars as a franchise, been a massive fan since I first saw the original trilogy of films 25 years ago but my interest is starting to wane. The prospect of Episode IX (which is largely about characters I have no investment in) and a load more films designed to fill story gaps which (in my opinion) don't need filling (Obi Wan, Lando, Boba etc.) just doesn't appeal.

I'd love to see more films set in the universe which explore unseen aspects of it, a totally different time period (such as the Jedi/Sith war) or perhaps a point of view we haven't seen in a film. I'd love for example to see a film set from the Empire's point of view during the Civil War, this was explored in one of the new canon books called Lost Stars and it is clear how the Empire see themselves as heroes whilst seeing the Rebels as galactic terrorists. Doubt we'll see anything like that explored in a film unfortunately.

I've been diving back into the old novels recently, having just finished Labyrinth of Evil and The Clone Wars novelisation. I've enjoyed them, and am considering going for all The Clone Wars novels released, having missed them originally. I'll probably look into some more of the new stuff afterwards. Aside from the early stuff, I've only had the Aftermath series.
