We are actually strawberry floated. The US and its sphere of influence will slide into fascism, spurred on by underperforming economies and insecurity about the emerging dominance of China. Automation will cause mass unemployment and crippling poverty, and even those lucky enough to still have jobs will be serfs in a nightmarish corporate neofeudalism. We will enact brutally cruel ethnonationalist policies as we lash out at the hundreds of millions of climate refugees. We're at most a decade away from pretty much a living hell.

Twitter's a big part of my life, and it's only tolerable because I have a separate account for my hobby (Pokemon cards) and the rest (old friends, politics etc).

I can't read the latter for more than about five minutes but I can spend days per week enjoying the company of people who all talk about the game, new cards etc. It's actually quite therapeutic and there's strawberry float all politics there.

Obviously that's because you just have nothing to do with the people who you disagree with politically and overlook the stuff you do agree with, but it's grand. Fully enjoy my time on twitter, yet have nothing to do with the current affairs shite. Which is rightly depressing.

Clearly you're letting this stuff get under your skin, and fretting about these uncontrollable situations is not healthy. While i see that you do not want to leave social media, i would suggest that you use it less, stay away from the news, and go do some other things which you enjoy, things that will focus your mind on the more positive aspects of life....

The "Sloth Wants to Work" episode is legit one of the most wholesome things I've seen in my life. I don't know if it was intentional or not but it was a fantastic low-key allegory to someone with a mental/physical disability getting through life.

I ended up turning off news notifications on my phone. Every time it popped up I knew it was going to be something depressing. Just one awful thing after the other. I know it's not good to ignore it, but seeing it less is better for my mental health. Since the Brexit vote I think my anxiety has certainly increased.

I sadly think something truly awful is going to happen within the next decade if things carry on like this, but I am in no position to change it. Unfortunately the world is full of far more idiots than rational people it seems. Social media has certainly made things worse though.

We have the dubious honour to be born into a transitional period in human history. In thirty to forty years capitalism, or at least capitalism as we know it, will have ceased to exist. If we continue growing even at current mediocre rates then the global economy will ballooned to several times the size it is today by the middle of the century. Clearly that is an absurd premise. The planet has reached a point were maintaining an economy that size is physically impossible without collapsing. It would be like saying a fish will grow bigger than the pond it lives in.

strawberry float knows what the new system will be like, although it will probably look obvious in hindsight to all the people who write the textbooks. It's worth bearing in mind that this is not a new experience. People in the past who lived through pivotal periods had all the same anxieties and probably thought the world was ending too.

This is a separate matter, but living in France with a...less than excellent grasp of the french language severely limits opportunities like that. Which is a shame as I think you're onto something there.
