Sounds like you’ve just wasted money on tickets.

Millennials like you make me sick, I bet you eat avocado toast as well. :x

Avocado. :dread:

There's a sandwich shop I used to go to for lunch that has as one of its top sandwich options a B.L.A.T. (Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, Tomato). Every time I tell them I just want the BLT parts and they give me a look like I've just sexually assaulted them.

Is it that odd that I don't want you ruining my lovely sandwich with strawberry floating avocado?!? :capnscotty:

Preezy wrote:Quite a bump, but I feel it's necessary - I've become the very example I gave in my OP. Earlier in the year I bought some tickets for Jacob Banks in London (he's decent, check him out). And now, just a night before the gig, me and the wife can't be arsed with traipsing up to London on a week night, spending money on travel, food and drink, to get crushed in a crowded standing-only venue. Too tired, too skint, not passionate enough about the artist. My wife argued that we're wasting the money spent on the tickets, but I expertly (I'm an expert) argued that it would be wasting more money if we went to the concert that we no longer really want to go to. The money spent on the tickets has long gone, spending more to stop the initial money being "wasted" is a fool's errand.

The sunk cost fallacy has been defeated, all hail cold logic! :toot:

The problem with the fallacy from my perspective is that even though you might not want to go at that moment you might really enjoy the event. If you were at the event and weren't enjoying it, I can agree with the idea that as you're at the gig and not enjoying it, it might be worth leaving early, though.

Where's the option to sell them to the touts outside the gig?

For the purposes of the hypothetical scenario in the OP, that's not an option.

What I think happened here:

Preezy's wife wanted to go to see Jacob Banks.
Preezy didn't want to go.
Five months ago, his wife nagged him into buying tickets, but he never intended going.
He immediately created this thread in order to provide the arguments to back him up when he told her he didn't want to go.

I once accidentally bought tickets to the wrong gig, realised we were in the wrong place, walked out and went to the right gig. (went to Bristol O2, was supposed to be at the Anson Rooms, in my defence what were the chances there were two rock gigs on the same night in Bristol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

So I guess that means that no I would not go

Nah, I was happy to go when we bought the tickets, but in hindsight it was a definite impulse buy - we hadn't taken into account the other costs and babysitting etc. Now it's just a bigger hassle to go than not.
