GRcade Health Thread

So tomorrow, after 10 months of pain and annoyance, I'm finally hopefully getting my ankle sorted. It involves a mini telescope, a bone shaver, hopefully the removal of some cartilage floating around and a possible ligament reattachment... I've never had a general anaesthetic before and I've got to stay overnight there for recovery so I'm a bit nervous... Wish me luck :) tomorrow night.. probs being unconscious at 6pmish... think of me :-)

So to turn this into a thread... has anyone had any major/minor but persistent health problems in the past?

Never been to hospital overnight. Is it perverse than I want to do it at least once?

Because depending on why you're there, it's like saying 'I've never spent the night in a dude's sex dungeon. Is it perverse that I want to do it at least once?'.

Wow, I'm really perverse.

I had a nerve biopsy once - about a 2 1/2 inch cut in that divot between ankle and heel, where they cut some nerve tissue out to have a look-see. I was awake the whole time, and they showed my the bloody thing afterwards :fp: Looked an awful lot like those vines/tendrils in War of the Worlds -

I had an operation on my nose when I was about 11 - a bully of about 16 bopped me one on the way home from school for literally no reason. Bent my septum cartilage out of joint, which I don't think they even fixed properly.

I imagine hospital to be like a hotel with bedside service and more drugs. Sounds better than being ill at home tbh.

A very minor one, but I have a pulled muscle in my leg which has been annoying me for about a month now.

All I Know is every time i'm in hospital i'm in pain.

Not good. Best avoided.

I also have a habit of being given morphine even though i'm alergic to it and told them and having to be bloody revived.

Wouldn't you be in pain if you weren't in hospital too though?

Not trying to be a dick, I'm genuinely interested. Is the general dislike of hospitals due to them being associated with pain and illness or is it due to the fact that it's not as comfortable as home?

I've had a few operations in my day, mainly on my ears, I was born with gromits and had to have them dealt with, I also had perforated ear drums, which needed to be fixed (both ears) But since then they have "re-perforated themselves" and my hearing seems to be slowly deteriorating yet, I don't want to go back on the NHS to get it fixed, I was on private healthcare when I had the original operations.

I think the general disliking is down to being in a building full of death and sickness. Screams and shouting, the sound of being sick. You want to spend a night in that?

Yea, but, y'know....

...Nurses.
