Possibly the issue is in the way we see the insult. For me, it’s the same as calling him a gooseberry fool human being(which I think is entirely fair enough given the provable impact of his actions and the complete lack of remorse he’s shown). For you I seem to be likening him to Harold Shipman, which was obviously not my intention.

Next time I’ll go for the less flowery “he’s a banana split” and avoid the miscommunication.

Anti-vaxx twats have a far bigger body count than Shipman, so it's perfectly fair to call them human trash.

His actions have already led directly to the infections of dozens, if not hundreds, of people in Serbia and Australia - this is unassailable fact, unfortunately. His views, widely publicised and scientifically baseless, are broadcast to his hundreds of thousands(millions?) of supporters. There's every chance he could've influenced significant numbers to go without vaccination, and he has to take a portion responsibility if any of those people he's influenced become ill or die. For what it's worth, I feel the same about Rob Schneider and all the others. For me, any achievement pales in comparison to the potential harm they've caused by being absolute mentalists.

I like you Denny, you have always seemed like a fundamentally decent fella. But I think you're taking offence at the wrong part of this story and we'll need to agree to disagree.

(FWIW I would never jeer him in the stands during a match because it's disrespectful to the sport of tennis but I might get a wee sign made up if I ever end up going to Wimbledon :slol: )

The football is on. Happy to agree to disagree.
Fwiw i only said your comment was as classless as the fans making noise.
Not that you were classless full stop. Youre a classy guy, Cora.

I've always liked Djokovic as a tennis player but haven't followed tennis closely for the last few years, what exactly has he said/done off the court to make him human trash? Is it the way he was behaving at the start of Covid with his exhibition tour?

Novak is a good guy. I've no idea what he's said about covid(I'm away to have a look for it), but on court he's a gracious loser and applauds other players excellent shots. Fed is a big headed cry baby and Nadals fingers smell of jobbies(I've got ocd too but I don't pick my arse every 5 seconds).

I really miss the uninjured Andy Murray. Tennis just doesn't hold the same appeal for me without him.

As for young players, I'm surprised that Zverev hasn't pushed on and Kyriagos could be an amazing player if he wasn't such a red neck twat with a gooseberry fool attitude. Medvedev looks like the real deal, as does the Greek guy whose name I won't attempt to spell. Tsistipas? Shapololpolopolov and Thiem are fine players but perhaps too small to be consistent winners, a big serve goes a long way in this day and age.

A couple of the British lads have a chance to get to the level of Henman but none will be anywhere near the standard of Andy. Edmund does have a cracking backhand on him but you need more than that to be a top player.

I don't know if Andy has any male children, but we'll have to wait for him to grow up before a Scot wins again.

Rapidly-greying is Mediocre to Average at games :fp:

Yeah, I think the problem in the UK in general is tennis is just a very niche past-time and the climate is terrible for all year round training. It isn't really viewed as an aspiration amongst our young - apparently in the UK many free outdoor tennis courts are often empty, such is the low level of interest.

If a UK teenager shows a bit of talent & wants to go for it, their parents basically need to upsticks, sell their homes, get into debt, etc, and send their child to another country like Spain to have a tiny chance of becoming a top player. (Which is what Judy Murray did with Andy and his brother).

I think in Eastern Europe for example it's seen as a much more aspirational concept amongst sporty teenagers - and the trials of attempting it are taken more seriously (often with pushy parents!). It's why you see so many Eastern Europeans in the tournaments, especially in the WTA.

No golden slam for Novak. Zverev has beaten him over 3 sets before in a big game so was wary of that. Shame but kudos to Zverev.

It’s a genuine shame that he is the greatest male tennis player ever.

I’m going to be pissed when he surpasses Federer and Nadal.

He lost 4 matches in a single tournament, that’s a record!

Nishikori had a real go at Novak last night. He raised his game appropriately though. Really hope he does the calendar slam.

Great win for the young brit, too. Barty once again dropping out when highly fancied leaves the women's draw wide open.

Could be a great second week. Can only see Zverev derailing Novak if anyone but you never know.

Fantastic stuff again last night. Radecanu was superb.
Djokovic taken to the limit by a 20yr old ranked 99, Jensen Brooksby
That kid has a very bright future. He won the first set 6-1 playing flawless, aggressive tennis. Novak had to bring his a game. The quality was very high throughout.
Hes got Berretini next and probably Zeverev after. Both could give him a lot of trouble.
