Some odd play from Djokovic as well.

I always forget just how bad Boris Becker is on commentary. His constant attempts to make some profound quip just before someone serves never land!

Is it just me or have the crowds been much rowdier this year on Centre. This is what happens when you start serving Stella Artois.

He's an anti-vaxxer and covid superspreader. It's a shame he's probably going to beat Federer and Nadal's records.

He is a good tennis player, possibly the best ever, but he's also human trash. Gutted to see him continuing to win. I genuinely don't understand how he's retained any supporters.

You can only beat what's in front of you, but the lack of competition for Djokovic at the moment is depressing. Just look at the players he beat in this tournament.

The only thing better than watching him win is to watch him win and listen to the disapproval chorus.

Calling him 'Human trash' is as classless and graceless as the idiots shouting while he was trying to serve.

Greatest of all time.

I'm awfully sorry you think I'm classless. What I think is classless, is preaching incorrect science about Coronavirus vaccines that could lead to the deaths of hundreds or thousands of people. I think it's classless to be involved in a superspreader event. Not to mention being indirectly involved in spreading Covid in Melbourne. All actions of a fundamentally bad, selfish person, in my opinion. And I reserve the right to remind everyone I possibly can of this, every time Djokovic does something impressive. Same with anyone else who has used their powerful voice to spread lies and disease. It's disgusting. It's a terrible shame that he is the greatest player of the last fifty years, really.

Those aren't even nearly the same things.

It's not classless to label someone based on their actions, and Djokovic's misuse of his platform makes his an absolute scumbag.

His views on vaccinations are poor and he was stupid to do the event but leading to the deaths of hundreds or thousands. Behave. Doesnt make him human trash.

His actions have already led directly to the infections of dozens, if not hundreds, of people in Serbia and Australia - this is unassailable fact, unfortunately. His views, widely publicised and scientifically baseless, are broadcast to his hundreds of thousands(millions?) of supporters. There's every chance he could've influenced significant numbers to go without vaccination, and he has to take a portion responsibility if any of those people he's influenced become ill or die. For what it's worth, I feel the same about Rob Schneider and all the others. For me, any achievement pales in comparison to the potential harm they've caused by being absolute mentalists.

I like you Denny, you have always seemed like a fundamentally decent fella. But I think you're taking offence at the wrong part of this story and we'll need to agree to disagree.

(FWIW I would never jeer him in the stands during a match because it's disrespectful to the sport of tennis but I might get a wee sign made up if I ever end up going to Wimbledon :slol: )

He actually mellowed towards the covid vaccines since his very early statements.

He's very 'ultra-new-age-health-spiritual ideas' in general, and this has lead to definite missteps, but human trash?

The problem with ridiculous hyperbole is that you have nowhere left to go when you want to discuss actual human trash.

I'd love you to read my last post then actually comment on that and engage with Djokovic's actions and my views on the matter.

For the record, Djokovic has not mellowed in his statements, he simply refuses to discuss his views now because he knows he's in the minority. In May he told journalists that he wasn't going to tell them whether he was vaccinated himself but hoped it didn't become mandatory for the ATP tour. He's said numerous times that if he had the opportunity to do the tour of Eastern Europe again in the same circumstances, he would. Which is reprehensible.

For what it's worth, I have very strong views on people who knowingly spread misinformation about Coronavirus and I'm fully aware of it. I've been lucky myself, but watched my wife, mum, brother and sister-in-law all get infected with it(the latter two while working as front-line NHS staff, and with long covid as well). The effects of long Covid are horrendous, and no joke, so I have absolutely no strawberry floating time for people like Djokovic who use their considerable platforms to potentially damage others. No time at all. And I've not much more for anyone who would defend him, either.

Calling anti-vaxxers "human trash" is mild.

The real description for them should be "thick as gooseberry fool banana splits"

Being a vaccine-sceptic doesn't make you human trash. Harold Shipman is human trash. Being a vaccine-sceptic just makes you misinformed & wrong, which Novak clearly was/is.

I don't agree with his early views/actions but I don't put all the pieces of the puzzle together the same way as you, when it comes to writing him off completely as human trash.

And if someone as hyperbolic as you has no time for me, I can live with that! :D

You don't know me or my posting style outside of this thread/singular exchange, and I wasn't actually talking about you so there's no need to descend into personal insults, cheers.

We obviously have different views on what constitutes a specific insult, when it's appropriate and what it means, that's fine. I'd say anyone who wilfully disregards public health advice and endangers the lives, livelihoods and health of others on more than one occasion has earned a bit of name-calling. For what it's worth, I do my research before I commit to an opinion on another human being as well. I've never particularly liked the guy, but in the last year he has disgusted me on several occasions and I stand by that.

Ha ha, come off it now.

Quoting someone who was defending him and saying you have no time for people who defend him - of course I'm going to think you were referring to me.

Probably my fault on re-reading the post so I'll take that on the chin as badly worded, apologies. I was coming off reading an article about his supporters(Boris Becker, Dominic Thiem) defending him after the Adria debacle and meant to be clear that I was explicitly referring to people who were defending his actions, which you clearly were not doing.

Oh yeah, I'm not defending his actions/theories back then. I was just defending him in terms of not being human trash.
