I think she overreacted to that. No way did that really hurt. He might well have meant to do it, though.

Meanwhile, a few years ago, after angrily hitting the ball he was asked if that would cost him one day, and gave an arrogant response. Karma indeed

The rules are the rules. Don't think it was intentional but it was reckless and foolish.

That's his breakaway dead in the water as well.
My favourite player but even I'm :fp: at that.

Glad the lady is OK.

Disagree. One angle makes it look like it was a simple underarm hit without any power, but the more panned out angles show the velocity of the ball. That hitting you in your throat unexpectedly (particularly as an older individual) would completely take your breath away. I can't believe how many people I've seen on Twitter saying the above. Can only assume these people have only seen one favourable angle.

I tell you what, how about everyone that thinks she's overplayed it volunteers to be thwacked in the throat in a similar fashion by Djokovic?

Just by gently bringing the side of your hand against your throat is quite jarring.

The amount of Twitter comments defending Djokovic and condemning this woman for "going down too easily" are atrocious. This was a professional tennis player, hitting an object with some force and unexpectedly hitting a middle aged person in the neck. She's perfectly entitled to hit the deck even if it's just out of shock or surprise. No question that Djokovic didn't mean it - of course he didn't - but he has a long history of smashing balls about(context) in frustration and he's never been called out for it when he should've been. Now it's finally actually done some damage.

I am surprised he's still anyone's favourite player given the complete insanity he's spent the last twelve months or so spouting. The guy's a bellend.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy

Djokovic has been a complete bell-end forever and I have no idea why people are attempting to defend him or downplay this.

You can actually pinpoint the moment he realises.

If you look really closely you can see him say "vaccinate this bitch!" as he does it.

Yeah having seen a different video it was a lot harder than I thought. What a prick.

Always nice to see Serena lose.

Like to see osaka win again. Can't see Thiem losing to Zverev. A win would give him huge confidence for a real tilt at the rest of the majors next year. Oh and the French of course in the autumn.

Zverev must lose. He's bratty, fragile, and over-rated. He's made this final 'beating' two choking opponents in a row.

Can't see him putting enough together over 3-4 sets to trouble Thiem.

Great win for Osaka.

Working overtime and bloody forgot the start time.

Thiem just clawed himself back in it seems.

Got it on my phone on prime. Didn't know it was free.

Missed a good match by the looks of it. Kudos to Zverev. He's played well this set again.

Taking turns to choke here. If Zverev wins this after two double faults in a row in a tie break decider he's in bed with Satan.
