So threatening bans and warnings at even the merest provocation of the rules (that doesn't even apply, it's an unnecessarily extrapolated technicality) is deemed a good effort?

It's not pushing luck, it's arguing common sense. Censorship seems to be on the up round these parts, and threatening to ban the community you try so hard to bring over from old GR because of harsh interpretations of rules (best hadn't mention porn altogether, in case it encourages someone to look at porn) is going to do you more harm than good.

Not to say bans and warnings should be disposed of, but now this is all within your own power and not an employed figure there seems to be an increased amount of flippancy and a relish of using the powers. Know what I mean?

Here, some evidence:
Revealing what these websites are could be interpreted as contravening this rule, no?

gooseberry fool like this shouldn't even be put in the public part of the forum, I don't think. Rule breaking and bans were rarely discussed in such a manner in front of us peons before, it's private stuff and if indeed you think it's worthy to punish KKLEIN, maybe people like Eighthours should keep it between the culprit and himself.

EDIT: Post above: more technicalities from Mr Hours to convince others he's still right when he's been shot down in a spectacular manner.

I met this girl on Monday, took her for a drink on Tuesday. We were making love by Wednesday, and on Thursday and Friday and Saturday I was wanking away to YouPorn.

What a mean-spirited post.

I wasn't "threatening" a ban or a warning: I was bringing the rules to KKLEIN's attention and wondering publicly whether or not his initial post broke them. Thus people could have a say, rather than me brazenly issuing a judgement on the matter.

As for this "relish of using the powers", please point out where anyone has been warned or banned so far on GRcade without a very good reason. You're talking crap. Please stop it.

What was the context of this? Did he just pop up on screen and go "Alright... I'm Craig David, here's my favourite porno websites and that." :?

When Craig David's sleeping with girls, does he remind them (in a whisper) that he's Craig David every 30 seconds like he does in all of his bloody songs?

I said effort in putting the forum together. But it's not just this thread - people seem to be trying to push at the boundaries of their new-found freedoms instead of just acting as they'd normally do if GR was still here. It's early days yet, and we're still discussing how best to handle everything. The last thing we need is people deliberately seeing if they can get away with stuff they couldn't on GR. It shows a fundamental lack of respect for those who are attempting to do what's right both for existing members, and for potential newcomers. We don't want to turn into a haven of porn and c-bombs - there are other forums for that. This is primarily a gaming forum, but one which is also used for recreational chat about other stuff. It doesn't have to turn 'adult' just because we're not policed by Future. At the end of the day, we still have some younger members, and we need to be careful about what's said and what's done.

It's not pushing luck, it's arguing common sense.

In which case, why wasn't it posted as a question on Forum Feedback? Flippant remarks to has-been popstars and posting the names of hardcore porn sites ONLY WITHOUT THE ACTUAL LINKS LOL isn't the best way to make a point.

Censorship seems to be on the up round these parts

That's simply not true. There's been stuff posted on here that would have got people insta-bans on GR, and have been let go here.

and threatening to ban the community you try so hard to bring over from old GR because of harsh interpretations of rules (best hadn't mention porn altogether, in case it encourages someone to look at porn) is going to do you more harm than good.

No-one's doing that. We're trying to create a set of reasonable ground rules, is all.

Not to say bans and warnings should be disposed of, but now this is all within your own power and not an employed figure there seems to be an increased amount of flippancy and a relish of using the powers. Know what I mean?

Nope, that's not true. And if it starts getting like that, then I'll have something to say about it (even though I've no real power to do anything about it other than say my piece).

Here, some evidence:
Revealing what these websites are could be interpreted as contravening this rule, no?

That's one way of looking at it. I'm pretty sure Eight just meant it as a friendly warning. More of a "let's be careful now" than a "I'm going to ban you so fast your feet won't touch the ground".

There was Henke's thread in the forum bit where he was pre-emptively warned because of a reputation on a different forum. General consensus was that was unfair. No one has been banned (that I know of) so I give you that, but hey, I've one thread working in my favour. Could also mention the debacle involving [the illusion of] letting us vote you in as mod but I'll forget about that.

Mean spirited post? What do you expect I do, brown nose instead and say you're doing a perfect job? Maybe all you folk in charge are finding the responsibility a little hard to handle because smart folk (who aren't bluehats, mods or admins) are questioning some of the decisions or implications put forward.

All I'm saying is that the self same mods on the previous GR were never so quick to bring up the rules when they were never even broken, and public consultations on the issue were avoided in favour of keeping it in the mod room!

But hey, I'm talking crap, so, y'know, I'm obviously wrong.

That feels like a more reasoned response. I shan't argue further since I like your tone, fella.

Nevertheless, I'm a sceptical man. And I guess it'd be nice to see some mod solidarity (modidarity) around here, because insofar it looks like half of you barely talk to each other, what with recent events (Henke's warnings, the Eightours mod vote, etc.).
