So threatening bans and warnings at even the merest provocation of the rules (that doesn't even apply, it's an unnecessarily extrapolated technicality) is deemed a good effort?
I said effort in putting the forum together. But it's not just this thread - people seem to be trying to push at the boundaries of their new-found freedoms instead of just acting as they'd normally do if GR was still here. It's early days yet, and we're still discussing how best to handle everything. The last thing we need is people deliberately seeing if they can get away with stuff they couldn't on GR. It shows a fundamental lack of respect for those who are attempting to do what's right both for existing members, and for potential newcomers. We don't want to turn into a haven of porn and c-bombs - there are other forums for that. This is primarily a gaming forum, but one which is also used for recreational chat about other stuff. It doesn't have to turn 'adult' just because we're not policed by Future. At the end of the day, we still have some younger members, and we need to be careful about what's said and what's done.
It's not pushing luck, it's arguing common sense.
In which case, why wasn't it posted as a question on Forum Feedback? Flippant remarks to has-been popstars and posting the names of hardcore porn sites ONLY WITHOUT THE ACTUAL LINKS LOL isn't the best way to make a point.
Censorship seems to be on the up round these parts
That's simply not true. There's been stuff posted on here that would have got people insta-bans on GR, and have been let go here.
and threatening to ban the community you try so hard to bring over from old GR because of harsh interpretations of rules (best hadn't mention porn altogether, in case it encourages someone to look at porn) is going to do you more harm than good.
No-one's doing that. We're trying to create a set of reasonable ground rules, is all.
Not to say bans and warnings should be disposed of, but now this is all within your own power and not an employed figure there seems to be an increased amount of flippancy and a relish of using the powers. Know what I mean?
Nope, that's not true. And if it starts getting like that, then I'll have something to say about it (even though I've no real power to do anything about it other than say my piece).
Here, some evidence:
Revealing what these websites are could be interpreted as contravening this rule, no?
gooseberry fool like this shouldn't even be put in the public part of the forum, I don't think. Rule breaking and bans were rarely discussed in such a manner in front of us peons before, it's private stuff and if indeed you think it's worthy to punish KKLEIN, maybe people like Eighthours should keep it between the culprit and himself.
That's one way of looking at it. I'm pretty sure Eight just meant it as a friendly warning. More of a "let's be careful now" than a "I'm going to ban you so fast your feet won't touch the ground".
