Gaming's first lesbian couple (maybe) would have been quite progressive for the time if they hadn't sexualized every single bit of promotion for the game like that.

Graphics were incredible for the PS1 as well. Yet another very difficult game though.

Wow. If you were looking through the adverts in the thread (and had no prior knowledge of gaming) you really would assume gamers and publishers were a right bunch of misogynistic, basement-dwelling cretins. No wonder there was a stigma associated with it for a long time.

Most of them would have be at home in Nuts (Although that didn't exist back then. FHM?), but I can't believe some gaming magazines published some of these :fp:

Most gaming magazines were spending all their time trying to be FHM. I think only Edge and the Official mags were exempt. Then Arcade came out and showed how a gaming 'lifestyle' mag should be done by actualy using gaming as the lifestyle choice.

Microsoft insinuate blitzing a poor defenceless goldfish in a blender, PlayStation Plus has a go on a bird and tells you all about it, Bloody Roar attempts another 'look, tits!' advertisement, and Official PlayStation Magazine runs a wacky competition in association with the Home Office and Electronic Boutique warning about the dangers of PAEDOPHILES IN CHAT ROOMS.

Man, if you had a Trinitron TV that big back in the day you were doing alright!

CRT was bulky and heavy as hell, but black levels were impeccable, motion flawless, viewing angles excellent, lag non-existent, and sound quality better than almost every TV out today. Resolution has improved dramatically, but in other areas it's taken the TV manufacturers a bloody long time to get back to where CRT was. Would still love to see what modern games look like on one though.

(Anyway, back to the ads!)

Amazed it took 6 pages to get to the obvious BMX XXX. Or as it was also probably known 'how to get your mum to buy you some soft porn without realising'.

It's still amazing that a game like that came out of Acclaim who had been a pretty big name developer and publisher. Though I think that game came out towards the end of their time when they were basically just trying anything to make cash and pretty much every attempt ended up backfiring.

Nudity in a game that was part of an otherwise child friendly biking franchise which ended up getting them sued by Dave Mirra
Trying to buy ad space on Tombstones for Shadowman
Offering a cash prize to parents to name their child Turok
Offering to pay off speeding tickets to promote Burnout

I think that ad is responsible for many teenage fantasies.

That BMXXX was pretty much Akklaim's last game wasn't it?

What a way to go.

They were a pretty horrible producer of games on many levels. They had the idea of putting adverts for the Shadowman on actual gravestones.
