Didn't Acclaim make a lot of the early successful Wrestling games though? Including the ones on the N64 with the insane character creators that let you make some truly monstrous creations?

Yeah, disastrous one that. I think they published the Warzone and Attitude games, not sure about WM2000 and No Mercy, or the WCW/ECW games.

I looked this up a while back. They were I think the second biggest N64 publisher behind Nintendo themselves, but their output varied wildly.

Yes, Acclaim had the WWF license until 1999, took over the ECW license until the promotion folded in 2001, and then launched Legends of Wrestling in 2001 until 2004.

The ECW games however - especially Hardcore Revolution - were basically nothing more than quickly reskinned versions of WWF Attitude, and by 2000 the gameplay already felt antiquated next to WWF SmackDown and WrestleMania 2000.

War Zone will probably best be remembered for the pioneering Create a Wrestler mode and natural sounding commentary, something THQ never once got right, and 2K to this day still struggle with. Electronic Arts also nailed the commentary on their first attempt in WCW Mayhem.

Talking of cash-ins, Acclaim also had the South Park license. And what a load of strawberry floating gooseberry fool that was.

I'm not having that, the South Park Turok clone was great and so was South Park Rally.

N64 magazine gave SPR 88%. Horses for courses I suppose. I loved it. Might have to pick it up and do a let’s play stream...

In truth I think the N64 versions of South Park and Rally were better than their PlayStation counterparts. SP on PS1 was just a repetitive turkey shoot in fog.

Pretty sure the N64 shooter was dogged by fog too.

There was a Gameboy Colour platformer planned as well but it got scrapped. Think it was basically a reskin of an existing platformer but I forget which, and why it was cancelled.

I had Chefs Luv Shack on the Dreamcast as well which was just a trivia game.
