Moggy can you forward the dial in details for Laura's cocktail hour? I've cleared my calendar.

Right guys, I’ve been WFH for 65 minutes and I’m BORED. Turns out my ADHD-esque personality isn’t well suited to hanging out in my kitchen.

I’d like volunteers to run some short competitions / quizzes / training that we can all dial into via zoom (if we’re available). If you want to come up with something, then let me know and I’ll slot it into the diary (so we don’t get ALL THE FUN ON ONE DAY)

Idea that other teams have used are:

- Photo competition of random house objects
- Trivia quiz
- Weekend round up

I think we can go further. I’m looking forward to Laura’s Friday 4pm cocktail making demonstration….

Please do volunteer to do something good for your colleagues….

Obviously it's not the case for everyone but it seems like it's almost certain that a lot of these people who are "bored" or "going crazy" having to work from home are probably those who actually don't really do much in the first place. Seems like a good way to cut out some people who are surplus to requirements really!

Personally I would love to be at home with no other strawberry floaters bothering me for the next 12 weeks!

The bloke who sent that email is the same boss that has been regularly working from home over the last few months.

Which begs the question, what the strawberry float has he been doing for the last few months while at home?

Finally got my home working environment set up. Some aspects are going to be annoying (like unfamiliar software versions), but most of it is going to work pretty well, I think. I’m going to get too used to this.

That moment when you realise that while it's taking up the whole kitchen table, you now have a triple monitor setup at home to test and see how your gaming pc fares

We had a team meeting over Zoom yesterday. The boss said it was a “cameras on” meeting. I just left my camera off, strawberry float letting them see me in my pants. :dread:

Was fun seeing other people’s homes though. Although one bloke had a bookcase behind him and one of the books clearly had “HITLER” on the spine. :dread:

The book case is the go to background for people who want to appear intelligent on webcams. Bonus points if they've made sure all the spines are arranged towards the camera, and the camera is angled up enough to show their posh light fittings.

Yes, but the Nazi literature appears to he sending another message...

I'm not sure the bookcase I have behind me crammed with Spider-Man comics and a Doc Ock figurine would give a much better impression.

I gave a tutorial this afternoon with my bookcase full of N64 games in the background so I can’t really judge anyone.

Sweet strawberry float all I would imagine!

Ah, I'm just jealous that I lost all my N64 stuff when I was at uni!

You should think about what's on in the background as well. Make sure any devices used to view porn the previous night are switched to mute.

True story: I used to play YouTube loops of machinery in the background of some sales calls so it sounded like things were being done and people were working in my house

Gecko, you have some utterly pro kit there. Looks awesome, man.

Thanks, and I've paid off like 90% of the stuff now. That Mac is strawberry floated though, I really need a new one, but a friend gave me this little guy who is liek 10x faster and processing 3D work anyway. Only my monitor (a shitty little HDTV) just died :fp:

I'm always thinking of ways to build stuff and make more space, those long boxes everywhere are sign-making vinyl stock on rolls, I need to build a rack and regain some space. It's a bit of an alladin's cave but better than the spare room I had before which was like 3 x 2.5metres.

This looks like you reluctantly have to share a workspace with Dexter.

That is exactly why I took that picture. :slol: Routing is a gooseberry fool, dust gets EVERYWHERE, and I mean on every single strawberry floating thing.

Victor Mildew wrote:GG Please re-hang those wardrobe doors :dread:

Ah the last pic? That's my new office I got keys for 2 weeks or so ago, I share it, I'm there some of the week. The old buildings here would give you anxiety, literally nothing is square, you can walk into a 20-30 degree incline in the corner of some rooms. Most of the buildings are like 100-150 years old+ in the centre of town so that's just what it is. Those wardrobes bug me though, the hinges are all old style bog standard hinges. I want to chip away the million layers of white gloss as it's probably a nice brass or or wrought iron underneath to give the room some character, but hey I go there to get work done not decorating, they don't pay me enough for that

I also keep closing the door as it drifts open to reveal all the random cluttered stuff just dumped in there.

I've already offered to touch up some stuff though. I hung back an hour on Friday just to dust everything in there as the other resident business doesn't give a gooseberry fool...

I could really, really get used to this.

I woke up naturally and started work around 6.40am, cleared everything ready for others to log on – the whole team has checked in and is working together very well over Teams. Everything is going suspiciously smoothly.
I've got a very cosy setup at home. My wife is sat at the table in the exact same situation... this is both good and bad (could deteriorate rapidly).

I'm sat at the kitchen table working away. My daughter is beside me, watching Mr. Tumble.

I hate it.

I think psychologically there's something I really dislike about having my work make its way into my home, but also, I find home a terrible environment in which to try and work, because I'm just not in a work mindset.

I found it really difficult to switch off from work over the weekend, because I'm still in the same building I've spent the last week working in. Equally, I find it really hard to focus on work, because I'm in my home, where I have my PC, Quest headset, stacks of books I want to read, Netflix on the TV, and currently a lovely sunny garden to enjoy. With all those distractions, and nobody around to see me not working but posting on here instead, or watching YouTube, it's nearly impossible to get myself motivated to open up my spreadsheets and get on with churning through a load of numbers.

Then I get to the end of the week, really behind on everything, and feel like total gooseberry fool because I've achieved nothing and put myself in a stressful position entirely by my own inaction. :simper:

fwiw, I understand all of this completely and it's normal. Only I feel slightly better not being in the vast minority with this one!
