I didn't even realise that this is what everyone was talking about on at about 2 in the morning. I just assumed it was some trashy US show until was 10 minutes into the first episode I flicked to and yeah it's pretty good. Triple bill.

Don't think I've ever seen a series which kept the viewer off balance as much as the Wire, good/decent people don't have happy endings - they get strawberry floated over and there's no quarter given to any character

Regarding Fargo's spoiler post:

I thought Omar's death was perfectly done. How cliché would it have been to have him go out in a blaze of glory? Or for him to get his redemption on Marlow? That is the game; as Omar said, it's get or get got. And how apt that it should be that it was that little kid who finished him off. The same kid we saw in the past pretending to actually be Omar on the street. He looked up to him like he was some kind of super hero. The same little kid that disappointedly said "that's Omar?" later on in season 5 when Omar came and threatened the corner boys (including Michael who he never identified from the apartment shoot-out). Omar had deteriorated and ended up becoming a shadow of his former self - even disregarding his own rules and pointing a gun at children. Great sense of foreboding when I saw it again a few days ago on TV.

It ties in with how strawberry floating brilliantly this show is shot and handled. It's almost like a documentary. The camera just 'sits' there and watches and observes. It's not there to capture some big firework display. If someone get shots then there you go. All in the game, yo.

Oh man, I've had Omar's death ruined to me already... About 4 times, as well. :x

Anyway, I'm up to 3-03. Can't believe Daniels and Pearlman. Ewwwww.

Gotta say I agree with you totally. When I first saw it I was  but then I thought about it and
it was the best way to do it. The very way Omar lived his life meant there could be no happy ending for him. However if they had written it so that he had some grandstand shoot out with Chris and Snoop it would have spoiled it, it would have been too perfect and that is not what the writers want to show with The Wire. The casual way it happened was more believable and more of a jaw dropper than any set piece shoot out could have hoped to achieve.

It also makes you think that The Game is the epitome of the American Dream. No matter who you are, if you are ruthless enough and seize your chance you can do anything. Just watch your back when you get to the top.

After the shock wore off I thought about it more and your right, it was the perfect way to end the situation and fits in with the ethos of the show

Have you watched The Corner which is the show the makers of the Wire original did back in 2000. The Wire is basically a series based on that mini series and The Corner ws shot like an even more documentary style show.

I fully agree with you on Omar. That was totally in keeping with the theme of the show. Look at how the mighty Barksdale was overt-hrown by Marlow or Stringer Bell died. The streets are hard and there's no fairy tale endings. I was gutted when Stringer Bell was killed. I really wanted him to leave the gang and become a legit business man

Maybe, why is that what is on in the middle of the night? I've only seen that. Are you guys downloading or using a VoD site that actually works in the UK?

Jesus, the start of season 2 doesn't go any easier on the viewer does it? Loads of new faces, check. Undisclosed motives, check. I love this show.

Who's the bird who supports Carcetti's run for Mayor? Y'know the one that McNulty shags.

She is strawberry floating .

Yoshi - give me a tosser rating, out of 10, for Ziggy, once you're a few episodes in.
