The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I only got about 10 hours into this before drifting away, if they plan to enhance the PC version might be a good chance for me to give it another go.

I’m loving it on the Switch but half tempted to look for a cheap copy of the GOTY edition on Xbox One for if/when I have a bit of a gaming lull next gen where I can dedicate 100+ hours to it again (only 45 on my current game, but I’m still doing quests in Velen and Novigrad :lol:

).

Edit, hmmmm it’s £11.99 on Amazon, going to hold out as it might end up never getting played :lol:

Does this just get better and better as you get through it? A good way into the Skellige plot line now (in fact just about to head back to the continent), think I’ve more or less romanced Yen (if I ever play it with the Series X upgrade I’ll definitely go for Triss for reasons :shifty:

) and I’m just in almost complete awe of how amazing it is, I really can see why it got so many awards and general praise at the time and now. Still got plenty of side quests and Witcher contracts to complete before heading away from Skellige though, then yet more to complete once I get back to the continent! Still not even touched Gwent yet :lol:

I’m just over 60 hours into my current game anyway, definitely stopped chasing the ‘?’, not got anywhere near the time to go after all of those now :lol:

It really does get better and better. Im #teamtriss and have been from quit early on because Yen talks to Geralt like he's beneath her! I was at start of my second play through (new game +) but I've stopped now and I'll jump back in on Series X.

EDIT: Just checked and I've put 133hrs into this. :lol:

I recently finished the Blood & Wine expansion for this, and I actually felt it was an improvement over the base game (which I'd never loved quite as much as many seem to).

It was at least 30+ hours all by itself and I fell in love with Toussaint. The quests were more fun as well I thought. Plus I got to pimp my armour!

Both expansions for it are great. Loved Blood and Wine, but I preferred the story in the other.

So I've got the GOTY edition sitting in my GoG.com library and I need a new 'primary' game to get stuck into.

How lost am I going to be jumping into this without playing the first two?

I’d only go with Triss second time to see how the storyline differs of course :shifty:

Yen first time as it definitely feels the overall better choice.

You'll be fine. Witcher 3 is more closely tied to the books than it is to its actual predecessors, but you won't require knowledge of either, they're just an enhancer.

There's an in-game glossary that fills out as you meet characters too, so you can still get an idea of the pre-established relationships even if you don't know them yourself.

For the PC version would people generally say that a controller is more comfortable or to stick with keyboard and mouse?

I played it with a controller the whole way through and thought it was fine. I don't think I ever actually tried keyboard and mouse!

Yes. I can't imagine how bad K+M controls for this would be.

I remember The Witcher 1 was a keyboard and mouse game and it was not a fun experience! I would hope that by 3 they have come up with a workable K+M system but even then I doubt it would be preferable to a controller!

WTF?!

Blood and Wine is probably the greatest piece of DLC ever created. As a standalone experience it is better than the vast majority of full games that I have played this generation.

Each to their own, everyone has an opinion etc. but that's messed up! :lol:

Witcher 1 is still my favourite, both generally and for its combat system :shifty:

I don't recall K+M being a problem!
