Witcher 1 is still my favourite, both generally and for its combat system I don't recall K+M being a problem!

Did you play the original release or the Enhanced Edition? I think they tweaked the controls when they tidied the game up for the later release.

Yeah the enhanced edition.

I still enjoyed the first Witcher game back in the day, although it has lots of problems, but I found the controls to be one of the weaker elements

Blood and Wine is probably the greatest piece of DLC ever created. As a standalone experience it is better than the vast majority of full games that I have played this generation.

Each to their own, everyone has an opinion etc. but that's messed up!

I think I hate games that take place in sunny climates...

The Vampire storyline and subsequent fights were SO HARD.

In terms of the DLC, is it best to play this right away once you reach the recommended level? Or wait until after completing the main game?

Thematically do it after the main game, it's essentially Geralt's epilogue. Hearts of Stone first and then Blood and Wine.

I never did get round to playing Blood and Wine. I played the game on PC but I might have to give my wife's PS4 copy a play when the PS5 comes.

Both Blood & Wine and Hearts of Stone are absolutely fantastic, easily the best additional content I've played since the days of full on expansion packs for PC games in the mid-90s.

With how much I hear people praise them I can’t wait till I get around to playing both of the DLC for this, nearly going to be heading to Kaer Morhen, no idea how far in the main quest I am but judging by my level (currently 24) I guess I might be just over the halfway point? Or does it do a good job of scaling your levels so no matter how many side quests you’ve done throughout you won’t be too far off the required level to start Hearts of Stone?

If you make sure you're not doing sidequests overlevelled, you'll have enough XP for the DLC. If you do quests over the recommended level you only get like 1 XP so you've missed out.

Well the next main quest is recommended level 14 (although I’m not sure if thats an error, as the previous one was 17 or 18 if I remember correctly) so I’m probably going to miss out on loads from that. So I may as well do the slightly higher level contracts before I move on as well then? So I get maximum exp from them?

Edit, next main quest is level 19 but I’m still 5 levels above that, side quests are really good so I’ve been making sure I do as many as I can.

Getting all the contracts out of the way on Skellige for now then, got 2 more in Velen but they’re both low to mid 30’s so I’ll do a bit of the main quest soon.

I just installed a mod that makes sure you always receive full XP for quests regardless of level

Though it'll probably result in me being hugely over levelled by the time I finish the main game and get to the DLC since I'm throwing myself at side quests as soon as I get to around the recommended level, or 1 or 2 levels under.

Last thing I did before stopping for the night was crafting my enhanced ursine armour, doesn’t look quite as nice as the base set but the mastercrafted/grandmaster ones look ace, still a few levels off of those yet though!

I'm currently rocking the enhanced Griffin armour as it's the only full set I've found so far.

I looked them when I started it properly (did start it before, but I used those few hours to get to grips with the controls and mechanics before starting afresh) and got to the point where you were starting to find the Witcher gear and thought the best one for my play style (mainly swords with the odd sign) was the feline or ursine and thought the ursine looked better on the whole, especially when it gets to the later upgrades, got to make sure Geralt looks good

Edit, definitely feels like I’m nearing the end of the main quest? Just reached the point where it says you’re nearing an important point and you need to be level 22. I can see why this is such a highly rated game, it’s great.

They really throw exp at you at parts of the game don’t they?

Just done the Battle of Kaer Morhen and I went from just under level 26 to level 30, this game is incredible though.

I think that's the beginning of act 3 but it's been years.
