Yeah there was a beautiful sense of melancholy throughout Blood & Wine. It's an absolutely fantastic package with a huge new map and lots of things to do in it, but it was impossible to escape the fact that the end was in sight and the developers played into that feeling wonderfully.

At this point i started getting a bit sad, as i knew it was the beginning of the end. Savour it! It's a nice lengthy DLC (even compared to HoS) so plenty of enjoyment left to be had.

Isn’t it approx 30 hours if you do a lot of the side quests in it? Really lengthy for a DLC, I love the atmosphere of Toussaint even after such a small amount of time spent there. Just feels like a really nice place they’ve created.

I definitely get that feeling too, not sure if its the case but the voice actor for Geralt seems to have changed his performance to suit the different theme of Blood and Wine but that could just be me? They definitely play into that feeling too, I mean I’ve just got given a house which is probably some indication of the end game for Geralt after doing the first couple of parts of the main quest.

Yeah, it was about that for me.

Yeah I definitely spent a good 30+ hours in Toussaint. I didn't want things to end so tried to do as much of it as possible to drag things out!

Best way to get money? Looks like even one set of the grand master armour won’t be cheap and then the renovations to your house are leaving me skint.

Kill people and loot the corpses. Also rob everyone blind.

You can get a decent wedge of cash from selling all the Runestones/Glyphs you pick up as well.

Hmmm, been doing that already and while it does add up I was hoping there was a quicker method! Oh well, might empty my chest of stuff to sell, not like I use any of it past what I’ve got equipped.

Edit, The couple of Witcher contracts I’ve done in Blood and Wine so far have been great

I ended up absolutely loaded with cash by the time I got to Toussaint so don't really recall any particular money making schemes - mainly just looting and selling everything I came across worked for me!

Manged to accidentally get the ending where Ciri dies :fp:

Has put a bit of a damper on the whole thing for me really and somewhat killed my enthusiasm to play the expansions, especially since to get the different ending I'd have to load quite an old save, assuming I even have one from far back enough.

I made sure I had a separate save after the battle of Kaer Morhen just in case, it’d be a lot to play through again though! Not played any of this over the past couple of days, need to get back on with it.

I’ve watched the other 2 endings on YouTube and Ciri becoming empress is definitely the best in my opinion, for the game world and how bittersweet it is which seems to fit the game perfectly.

There is a way of using a very recent save (just before the end scene on that mountain) and using console command to change a couple of things - so you can avoid the bad ending. It's on google/youtube.

It was a weakness of the game I think - it's nowhere near clear enough in certain key moments that you're completely strawberry floating things up for the ending, despite apparently making choices that you would think would be good for Ciri.

Oh nice, I might look that up then. I think if I change just one decision I can change to the Ciri becomes a Witcher ending. Not sure if I should go for that or the Empress ending though.

Blood and Wine is fantastic, gold is racking up nicely (bought all the stuff I need, I think anyway) and have about another 20k saved up so far, got a couple of quests on the go (one is 15 contracts in 1 quest, the other about a frozen bank account ) that should bring in a little more money at least.

Edit, crafted my grandmaster gear last night and still had a little left over so that will be going into renovating the villa when I’m next on it (most likely today).

All done :(

Absolutely terrific main game, with 2 DLC that almost surpass the main quest of the game for myself, the smaller and more contained stories told in Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine really finished off the game nicely. While I’ve adored playing it over the summer and into the autumn I don’t feel in any rush to replay all of it! I might be tempted to play it again on Series X but I think that’s a long shot at the moment. Can see why it won so many awards :)

So I’ve been thinking about grabbing the Switch version of this, never played the Witcher games before but it looks like a great handheld game. Is it worth playing these days?

100% YES!!! I never played it till it came out on the Switch either and put over 130 hours into it (over 2 saves I might add, one where I was just getting a feel for it before starting it proper). Fantastic main quest, 2 DLCs that are probably my favourite DLCs I’ve played so far that in some ways surpass the main game for myself. It’s a really good Switch port too, obviously takes a bit graphically but handheld looks really good, docked comes off worse but still more than decent enough to look at. Performance is solid for the most part as well.

Can’t recommend it enough!

Nice, what’s the battle system like? It looks action RPG style, is that about right?

Seems to be £35 on The Game Collection currently

I think it’d be classed as an action RPG? The combat is real time and there’s RPG elements to upgrading your abilities alongside weapon/armour/potion crafting too. Is it £35 for the complete edition? Not a bad price if so.

That’s cool, yeah it looks like it’s the physical complete edition.

Does this have a lot of hidden secrets if you explore the world? I love open world games that reward you for exploring by finding hidden caves or Easter eggs and stuff.
