What difficulty were you on? I've just done this quest on Blood and Broken Bones and have to say I didn't find it too hard. The final boss was easy when you realise even though there are multiple forms they will only attack you one at a time providing you don't strike any of the stationary ones, beyond that each one seemed like a fairly easy swordsman to take down - dodge his lunge/teleport attack then get a few hits in, make sure you've got Quen on the go and just repeat

Admittedly the caretaker was annoying based on just how quickly it could regenerate health, but once you know to take out the souls it's raising before it does then I didn't struggle too much.

Any Hearts of Stone completers want to indicate how much is left after Scenes from a Marriage? Been loving it so far!

You're more or less at the end of it. Shouldn't take longer than an hour to finish iirc.

I think I am also playing on blood and broken bones setting.

:slol: With me knowing tactics (which I quickly figure out on most bosses) and putting them into practice - without royally strawberry floating up - are two very different things. So in part the difficulty was of my own making, but I cannot recall the last time I spent so long trying to get the better of any enemy. Not even in any of the Souls games did I spend an hour on one enemy/boss.

Cheers, be a shame to see the end of it - but then there's Blood and Wine to look forward to!

Anyone know if the in game clock is accurate on this - I seem to recall it being wildly wrong in the past? I'm playing on PC but haven't been running it through Steam or GOG so it would be nice to get an idea of my play time thus far!

Oh I know what you mean - I spent ages trying to get past the boss at the end of Chapter 1 in Witcher 2 (Letho?) - despite reading up on tactics etc. I still struggled - sometimes things are just difficult even if you understand what you need to do!

I really need to about getting this.

I've never play a witcher game, but it really does look amazing and the praise seems very justified.

I'll have to wait until payday.

...or worth waiting for an 'ultimate pack' of the game and the DLC?

Madness. Buy it asap. You should be able to pick everything up quite cheaply if you buy the game pre-owned (£20-25) and the DLC via eBay. (HoS for around £5, <£10 for BaW.) There is so much value there it's not worth holding off. Maybe hold off buying DLC until after you're done with main game?

Finished Hearts of Stone.

HA! Suck it O'Dimm!

Oh and, that game of Gwent with Shani went from Oh this looks like it'll be a breeze to Ffffffuu in no time at all. :fp:  Won on second attempt, though.

edit: This game is so tight with experience points! I think I fully levelled up, with points coming from Hearts of Stone content alone *once*! I have a few missions I'll mop up before starting on BaW, so no doubt I'll have inched to the halfway point to level 39 after those are over. Current standing being that the level 38 bar is about a third full. :|

You got the griffin sword from the riddle world right?

Nope. I can live with that though.

God I'm so in to this game. Every night I seem to put as many hours as my loving wife can tolerate. Which is a lot.

I love the way the smallest seeming quest can be quite huge, and the shear variety within them. Skyrim did this pretty well but it seems to he far more refined here.

My only concern is that I am getting somewhat over levelled for some quests. Hopefully it will balance out though. I have turned level scaling on so I am having to keep focused. I got absolutely shredded by a group of Neckers the other night. It was actually quite reassuring tbh.

If you do quests which are substantially below your level you'll be missing out on loads of XP. For Blood and Wine (which seems to have much higher XP rewards) I've made a point of seeking out the lower level quests to do first.

OK. So my method of working from the lowest level quests upwards should be most suitable then?

I absolutely loved him as a villain - hell the whole Hearts of Stone story in general was quality stuff. They did such a good job with him and other characters it's a shame they kinda fluffed it when it came to the Wild Hunt.

Playing through Blood and Wine and the Knights tourney thing, I could not do the horse riding bit where you have to ride and hit/shoot to extend the time limit. The Roach controls at times can be right awful :dread: Aside from a...surprising shift in location, i'm really enjoying the conclusion to this. Higher Vampires and such are pretty terrifying :slol:

Yup. I went in expecting HoS to be the poorer of the two expansions, and whilst that may yet be the case, I found the story and characters to be really quite entertaining. Y'know, in a heartbreaking way.

Since the last dlc has been release I suppose I should start playing again since I have only played for 10 hours a year ago. :slol:

Had a game of Gwent yesterday where myself and the AI used one spy card, the same one I put down in round one, four times!

Oh and according to NerdLeaks, CDPR will be releasing a stand-alone version of Gwent!

And all of a sudden I can't lock on to enemies :fp: Seems to have started during tourney mission. (Noticed it when you have to take on that group of thug knight types in a brawl.)

It's a known bug caused by the tourney side quest. Fistfights without lockon are great fun. :simper:

CDPR is apparently working on a patch.

To be fair, the combat is better if you ignore lock-on.

I did a quick search on it and, apparently, it returns after a particular main mission. Hardly ideal but still welcome, however it's no good for me at the moment as I am currently in the process of doing missions other than the main one  And I have a load of 'em to do too. In the meantime I am pretty sure I lost two side-story fisty-fights (bank and gwent fight) because of a lack of lock-on. Though not the tourney one which I somehow fluked with 3 one-hit counters in-a-row! :datass:

Definitely not the case when you have more than one high damage dealing enemy to deal with in tight confines.
