Pretty much this. I'll admit I'm a casual gamer now (I can't spend too much time playing games) but when I first bought this, I loved it. It was my sort of settings (dragons, demons, dungeons...) but because I play in short spans I found it quite daunting as well. So I got rid of it, to my dismay. I then bought another copy about six months down the line, same again, I loved it but struggled with the sheer size of it. So again I got rid of it. I would so love to try again, but with Battlefield 1 and Gears of War 4 coming out soon, it won't get a look in.

Jawa, get it. It's bloody brilliant (if you can invest the time into it?)

Daunting - that really is the best word to describe this. I remember I got as far as reaching the first big city (where you have to cross a big bridge to get to....Novograd?) and then looking at the map and thinking "Jesus this game is too big"

Clocked up over 5 days on it now :datass: And the second DLC is just marvellous.

I just bought the GOTY edition on PC. I didn't get on with Witcher 1 & 2, so didn't consider the 3rd game on release. However I found myself looking at some W3 videos, and decided I was in the mood to start a nice epic fantasy game. £22 for a GOG key seemed a great deal too.

Put a few hours in last night, and I'm really enjoying it.

I feel sorry for the folk who didnt play it more, not least because Skellige Isles is probably the prettiest place in the main game, to me it's prettier than the place in blood and wine DLC some places are genuinely jaw dropping.

Visually I agree. But Touissant is just so relaxing

Just want to add that I thought the soundtrack to this game was immense, in particular the track King Bran's Final Voyage, which plays early on when you come across a battlefield littered with corpses. Very moving :(

It's amazing. The Skellige music is probably my favourite. Blood & Wine introducted some great new ambient pieces too.

Skellige is Skyrim done better than Skyrim, and it's not even half of the game (with all the expansions at least). And yeah, the soundtrack is one of the best ever put in a game, hours and hours of absolute quality tracks that fit perfectly.

You people are making me jealous. If it wasn't for the fact that this year is insane when it comes to releases, I would have picked up the game already. Still going to pick up the game before year's end though as that's when I think the GOTY version will be around £15-18 (if one is lucky).

This is the best game Ive played on this generation, easy. The main game is brilliant, and I dismissed it to quickly, now I'm onto the DLC it just shines through how wonderful everything is. The only negative i can think is you cant jump while in combat and the witchers movements can be a bit iffy.

On Blood & Wine,Ive just tracked the killer to the barn where geralts old pal has just appeared, the area, while all bright and bushy eyed clearly has some sinister undertone. Ive got about 15 quests all open and all I want to do is stand and look at the scenery.

I love this game.

The combat in this game is horrendous.

Why doesn't the game indicate when enemies get super armour and just plough through your attacks.

I was fighting a boss earlier and this witch lady was helping me, sometimes her lightning bolt would make the boss stagger and sometimes it wouldn't.

Sometimes my hits stagger an enemy, other times they don't.

Unless I'm missing something it's definitely one of those games where they have a gooseberry fool load of grindy stuff to try and cover up how weak the combat is.

I really like the story but the combat and RPG gooseberry fool is a chore. I may as well just watch a play through.

Choosing to watch someone play the one of the games of the gen? Madness.

Stick it on easy so at least the combat isn't a chore.

Many enemies have a weakness to a certain type of attack, be it a sign, parry/counter, fast/heavy attack or ranged. You then have the option of oils and potions etc. that can further tip the battle in your favour. It's true that at the start you're not the most capable of fighters, but as you level up you expand your capability to prepare, attack and counter dramatically. The combat isn't weak at all, you just have to pay attention to the enemy type, best counter and time your attacks rather than mashing buttons like a lot of simpler games.

As for grinding, there really isn't much in The Witcher 3. Standard exploration and completion of contracts and side quests should have you more than ready for any challenge in the late game.

I really don't understand why you'd want to watch someone else play arguably the best game of the generation rather than adapt and experience it yourself.

This is good advice.

It takes some getting used to but I found the combat to be very enjoyable after getting to grips with it.

Played this for a few hours today again. Learning more each time I play. Not a bad game and definitely more enjoyable than the second game so far.

I don't think it's absolutely flawless, but I am enjoying my time with it. I think I must be around the same point as Fade. Just started a quest where you follow a blonde witch into a dungeon.

I think I wouldn't mind the combat as much if the checkpoints weren't really bad and you didn't have to go through a minute long loading screen when you die.

Combat isn't really that enjoyable so far. That's more to do how crap the character movement/physics are. Maybe I'll start to enjoy it more, although I'm happy enough playing RPG's with terrible combat (pretty much every Bethesda RPG).

Movement seems similar to something you'd find in a GTA game. It's sometimes hard getting Geralt to do certain actions. Like mounting his horse or going through doorways.
