I really wanted to play this when it came out but never got round to picking it up. Now that it is free I will absolutely be giving it a try!

One of the greatest games

So I hear, can't wait! :toot:

I must admit that part of the reason I kept putting it off was that I was guilty of waiting for a price drop. :fp:

It is a tremendous game... but, man, does it hurt your head! It's not the sort of game that you can play and then "take a long break" from; the lessons learnt and style of thought need to be applied pretty swiftly, I found. I've spent two long-ish sessions (a week or so each time) playing and it can deliver a feeling of success like no other game. At other times, it can drive you crazy  .

I originally played it on PS4 - and left it alone for too long so forgot where I was up to. :simper:

I'll give it a go on PC - if my machine is up to it.... If not, I'll restart on PS4 sometime.

EDIT: PC seems OK - and this time.... I found the 'straight to credits' puzzle straight away. Must be because I know much more what I am looking for. Can you get out of the courtyard once you've activated that or do you have to restart? I couldn't get the gate puzzle to display, even though I opened all 3 'flaps'.

You have to reload a save or start a new one. However when you reload a save It remembers you've done that puzzle and marks it off on the monolith.

Thanks for this! Might restart the game on PS4 as my PC can only manage the lowest settings, and about 25fps.

Not really witness related, but if you enjoy this I can highly reccomend 'The Talos Principle'. It's in kind of the same mould as this - puzzles set in the environment, except it's a bit more approachable as you have set tools to move about to open doors, activate switch pads etc. It's getting fiendishly difficult now and some of the puzzles have been real head scratchers.

It suffers from the same thing as the witness imo in that by looking at screenshots, you'd think its nothing more thst laser beam puzzles, but it's much more than that.

Give it a go.

I forgot I have this. I must get back into it..... but I was thinking it was just laser beam puzzles so it got a bit tedious. :fp:

I will open my mind a little.

Don't get me wrong, there ARE a lot of laser puzzles, they just get a lot more tricky than making a beam go around a corner.

 Thank you.

We were talking about this game the other night, we loved it so much. We contemplated starting a new game, but I think we know too many of the rules to enjoy it in the same way again. There are a couple of puzzle panels that I know do nothing when completed, that we still haven't managed to do, so we may have a go at them soon.

How has everyone else got on with it?

Got 42+2 puzzles in and uninstalled this again. Can’t believe how much praise it’s got. What a boring use of an hour that was.

I completed the game but I would not recommend it really unless you are nuts about puzzles. I would recommend trying out stuff like Talos Principle (kind Portal inspired) or Obduction (Myst inspired) before the Witness.
