I still think its shitty to make a big deal out of it and then close it with "but it extends your work day". Its not the 1800s anymore, companies should be flexible by default, the majority of us work in non customer facing rolls so when we get our work done doesnt matter as long as its done. Flexible working hours should be standard policy, not seen as a reward.

8 months in to working from home and some people still haven't mastered the art of muting a microphone during a meeting. Same people every single time.

Back to work today after 2 week's paternity, my manager left last Friday, and their replacement has already handed in their notice, and on top of that, the Finance Director is leaving as well

There's people at our clients who have worked on Sage for years and years and they still can't add a company to it themselves. People are either lazy or stupid or both. I fit the lazy side.

You have to be intentionally thick to do it from the start of a meeting too if using Teams as it will auto mute if there are already people in the meeting talking....

Wow.

Though on the plus side, sounds like there's a vacancy or two that might be a good fit for you...

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Jesus strawberry floating Christ why do people call you about work during your break time? Have you really got nothing better to do?

I probably agree. When I had to leave a job on doctor's orders and it was going down the shitter anyway so it was the smart thing to do, my director lambasted me via text about being given priveleges like remote working. So you saved me hundreds of pounds commuting to a job that I agreed to attend essentially at my expense? Cool thanks. I had to travel 3 hours each way to sit on my laptop and develop websites that I was already developing remotely from home, and when I was seriously ill I'd still work from home and deliver the same work? They were strawberry floating mad if they thought those were priveleges, especially since I essentially turned down a position for £10,000 more, the day I signed their perma contract (because the commute was even crazier).

They were just pissed off they over invested in an office and a bunch of other staff for a project that didn't work out, they failed to get any customers or position it properly, or manage the cashflow of the business. Those are directorial responsibilities not those of a tech guy.

And then because I was freelance remote again I could be contacted to do whatever at beckon call. When I increased my rate by £2 per hour on top of my old salary (£16k) they complained and said I was reneging on a deal.

I switch off my office phone during my lunch break to avoid this!

Last day in my current team today, feels odd to be leaving a team after only 5 months but very exciting.

Start in new team tomorrow and still have no access to the test databases of the code base (is on internal source repository and not migrated to GitHub yet) so I guess I've got a few easy says ahead :D

He's doing it again, with added Mic too close to the face so it's booming and distorted :fp:

Got a job interview tomorrow in Bakewell of all places, already got a job sorted starting Monday, but figure I might as well go to this, see what they're like, get some more experience.

Just a pain in the arse getting there from Newcastle for 9am - staying in Sheffield tonight but even then it's tricky getting there, there's only one bus arriving before that time.

Oh well. Someone from my uni course who thinks he's better than me applied and didn't get an interview so I'm taking that petty victory whatever happens.

I guess you could say this interview is the cherry on top.

Some guy in a work meeting today had to apologise and mute his mic while presenting the meeting I was in, because his dog started throwing his toys around and making a load of noise. :fp:
