Sounds like a win, provided you can make it work without the stress!

Wasn't this down to increasing workloads and losing members of the team? Hopefully you can get the right people in place and get it all working properly!

So it's probably coming to an end soon - work are saying they want us to come back in. I've asked what benefit they're trying to achieve and they just say vague things like 'it'll be better for people', and when pressed then just say 'well it's what you agreed to when you signed your contact'. Woo

So went back in with a goal to 'tidy the room' and we'll look to work hybrid or something. Nope, went in today, no tidying as there's plenty of space for everyone and just worked and now told we're back permanently and that's that. Well pissed off with how they've handled this.

My job seems still happy to let me work full time from home which I'm very thankful about. It's also got much less stressful now we added 2 support engineers and one of the managers who did strawberry float all left. It's so good right now.

Your work generally sounds dire man.

Yeah I'm not particularly happy. Meant to have had a 1-2-1 over the last few months but just hadn't happened yet - and in it I'm going to say there's another job in the company I want to be trained for (it's a business analyst, which is very similar to what I'm doing now - except they sound like they actually do it in an proper way), and if that doesn't go well then hopefully my house move will be done by then and I'll feel comfortable looking for another job. Not that trying to get a job in the past has gone well for me, but need to try at least.

WFH is the greatest thing to happen to the workplace since Saturday was added to the weekend. There, I said it. I love it so much.

The other day I heard dirty rumours that we'll be asked to be on site "much more" than we currently are (which is already 50% of the time!) in the New Year. This was before Omicron came about, but still, it indicates their intentions. What a load of bullshit.

I am in the office for the first time since COVID, for a fortnight, on a phased return. It's only because I've been off due to bereavement for a few months, then I'll be back WFH full-time.

Feels weird being here.

One plus is that the dress code is now smart-casual.

Indeed.

Now, next we need Friday to be added to the weekend.

I feel very lucky with my current set up:

We are required to spend 2 days per month in the office but encouraged to spend 1 day per week in. So obviously my team just do the 2 days per month.

Additionally I'm still doing my flexed hours (8am to 5.30 pm) for 4 days per week, so living that 3 day weekend dream. Obviously as it's majority work from home I'm pretty much just getting all my work done within a 9-5. I get a lot of downtime which is lovely. I also get 28 days holiday a year and had a tonne of holiday to use up towards the end of this year as they let us roll a load over last year due to COVID.

Including today I have 6 more work days til I am off for Christmas. Which will be 31 days off in a row.

I don't think I'll ever have it this good again. I'm not in love with the work itself, but it's way too good a work/life balance to give up.

I'm still WFH full time but they asked me if I'd be happy yet to go into London again and I said no - I said once Corona wasn't an issue anymore I'd be fine to go into London if necessary a few times a week, but that until that happens im not going anywhere near it.

1 day every 2 weeks is quite a good deal compared to most people tbh!

We've been in one day a week since the start of September, with the plan to increase that to two days, then three, etc. as we got closer to 2022.

Then on Wednesday we got a company wide newsletter about the Omicron variant to say they've bottled it and everyone needs to strawberry float off back home.

In a previous job when I worked service desk I got a call from someone in the Aberdeen office called Phanny Tickler.

I worked with an Indian guy called Phani, who's name was alternately pronounced "Funny" and "Fanny" by the other Indian members of the team. Naturally, we bowed to their expertise and "Fanny" became the preferred pronounciation in the office.

Since GMS (a private subsidiary of the NHS) took over facilities no one wants to work at the hospital in catering, domestics, estates and portering. The obvious reason is that the new contracts GMS have brought in are garbage.

According to my shift coordinator 6 people were interviewed this week for porters. 3 were offered a position, 2 of which declined the offer once they got a whiff of the new terms and conditions under GMS.

Catering are on their knees regarding staff levels. The same reasons apparently. No one wants to work long hours for gooseberry fool money, reduced holiday entitlement, reduced pension plan, zero unsociable hours bonuses etc when compared to staff on contracts before 2018.

Personal annual objectives are such a waste of time, it's just an excuse for the bastards in charge to reduce your bonus. The job I'm at now they do quarterly check-ins to see how you're doing with these objectives. 4 times a year I've got to waste time writing paragraphs tying to bullshit my progress on objectives I haven't started.

I hate objectives, just let me do my job as I have no desire to climb the corporate ladder
