Flexibility, respect and understanding are probably the things I appreciate most about where I work.

Awareness and understanding that sometimes you need to have some flexibility in matters such as the timing of a work day. You may need to come in late or run an errand during the day, this is never a problem here.

By respecting my needs as the employee and affording me the trust to control things like how I operate and my own time keeping it encourages me to have more respect and commitment to the job and I believe has genuinely led to us having a happier environment in which to work and a much nicer and more approachable group of people around.

The IT guy's bum :datass:

No seriously I've mentioned my eye issues on here (probably too much) so in the last 3 months I'd basically worked 2 days and was either off or in hospital for the rest of it.

They were great and understanding about an evolving/changing situation - with timescales and prognosis' changing from day to day. Plus I got (discretionary) full sick pay for 95% of it.

So those events were "outside the normal day to day" stuff, but made a difficult situation much easier.

One specific question asked is what things they could do to make the company a better place to work. I wanted to say something about giving us the opportunity to work from home but I just know that won't fly.

Anyway, to get to the point - what aspects of the company that you work for do you really appreciate? Are there any benefits that they give you that you think genuinely make you feel lucky to work there and contribute to the overall wellbeing of the company as a whole?

Thanks.

My lunch is catered for, management are really flexible with WFH, and I am out of the country for 2weeks ever month. I pretty much live on expenses

The only downside is my commute is 2hrs each way.

Cool. Thanks guys. Is there anything you think you could reasonably ask your company to do that they do not do now?

Interview on Friday went well, probably 8.5 to 9/10 territory. Should find out either end of this week or early next week.

Update: I know one of the other candidates that interviewed for this post. He got told he was unsuccessful today. I did not hear anything (but then again I don't work Fridays).

Just wondering if you've heard anything on this yet?

Seems like quite a long time to wait to get a decision!

One of the interview committee has been off sick since then so they haven't been able to interview any of the other candidates yet. I did get some very positive feedback though. With Christmas I probably won't hear anything until mid-January now. :fp:

Finished for the year, apart from a workmates BBQ tonight which I have to endure.

Man I am getting sick of corporates. Someone tell me how gooseberry fool private companies are to make me feel better?
Just one example:

1. Argued about getting a project in the capex budget
2. Argued about getting the capex budget approved
3. Argued about applying to use the capex
4. Argued about the benefits of the project
5. Argued that talking to IT (bunch of strawberry floating morons) would only slow the project down
6. Talked to IT
7. Before IT can tell me that they "don't have the resources to help", I needed to go through the official project office process (IT insisted).
8. Went through the silly PO process
9. IT said they can't help
10. IT then went behind my back and questioned the benefits of the project, slowing things down
11. Everyone then went on holiday, so I have failed to get this very important project started before xmas

Similar thing happened for another project, but I started it early enough to get everything approved. Then of course the finance department are imbeciles, and the million people the invoice has to go through meant they didn't get it paid before xmas. Despite the fact I sent it to them 2 strawberry floating months ago. Why can't people just do their jobs? Why must I follow up everything?

Finally, that first project is labour related. Which isn't even my job.

Everyone calls IT "Morons" and thinks they're slowing things down. Then when gooseberry fool strawberry floats up because IT weren't involved they come crying expecting us to fix it without any Capex codes for our time

Being able to work from home

This. Since everyone on our team has been given personal laptops and VoIP headsets, morale has gone through the roof. Admittedly we don't just work at home when we want, it's rota'd in, but the fact that it exists (and includes our weekends, because nobody liked having to go to the office on a weekend), has made everyone so much happier. Plus it means if we get snowed in, or are too ill to go to the office, we don't have to lose pay.

That, and our new manager actually seems to give a gooseberry fool about us, and is making these things happen.

I think we're slowly moving towards asking if we can work at home on an ad-hoc basis. Now we have all the equipment and we have working practices in place, I think once we've proven we can do it properly, we can get away with making the suggestion.

I love working from home now. When I was younger, I'd get distracted too easily, but now I use it as a way of getting work done. When I go into the office, it's just impossible to knuckle down and get stuff down without being asked to do something else.

You can't do it every day in my job but 1-2 days a week are a godsend.

I've worked from home for over 2 years now, love it. Will struggle with having a commute again if I ever change company.

What the strawberry float is a capex?

I'm almost finished for the year, just not really printing some thing right now but not collected until Monday anyway so can take my time. Better finish up and get to bed as I'd like it off my plate for Sunday with the family. About as up against it as I can expect at this time of year and a welcome little boost to business as things have been difficult.

Printed two abstract art shirts upside down :fp: (easy mistake to make when you have about 20 prints of four different abstract designs that you have to transfer and flip/rotate multiple times into position, with zero reference point at all :dread:) but miraculously have two of the exact same size and colour in stock by accident so can replace those with which the customer originally ordered (A4 full colour stipulated in the invoice);- as I upgraded the entire job to a bigger and higher quality outsourced eco-solvent transfer (eco solvent printers start at around £5,0000) around A3 in size voluntarily just for a good result - at a cost of about 40% the job price (before garments or any other costs). They're paying £12 per print so technically I'm over delivering on that, so two A4 prints shouldn't be a problem.

So that's my world. Not sure whether spending Xmas glued to my family is going to be better or worse in terms of getting time away! :slol:

Hopefully next year I can stop ripping myself off as went waaaay to deep into race-to-the-bottom territory (made a loss in real terms and kept asking for changes and even showed up onmy doorstep at 9am after a heavy night working gibbering about a print position moving by 1cm or so) and standardise things a bit. But still get a handful of customers who even pay me extra and tips (including some people on here ), yeah how I would like more of those customers rather than the googlers who want to pay less than a fully automated service or retail customers who basically end up with my inheriting their strawberry floating massive overheads and squeezing my livelihood to eek profit out of their already massive margins. Not my problem if a high street business isn't viable, just get your stuff one overseas and I'll gladly not do it for like, 10% profit.
