Go with whichever job will be the most amusing for us.

This is the correct criteria by which to make any decision in life!

So I'm still hoping my final CEO interview with this other company comes up good and I get that offer instead but at least I know I'm not going to be out of work now.

You've got an interview for a CEO job lined up but you're accepting a HR position?!?!?

But in all seriousness - well done, sending in that notice must have felt very cathartic! :toot:

EDIT: Just seen you got the better offer - double congratulations! :toot: :toot:

The interview was supposed to be with the CEO, I was going for a job in finance. My bad on the wording :slol:

That's brilliant Zilnad! At least you didn't have to leave it long until you broke the bad news to the other place.

I hope the way your work reacts will be really satisfying for you, that will be the cherry on top for you getting the big job.

Make sure you take time to celebrate, you've earned this!

I'm having Domino's tonight. Celebrating in style!

I'll keep you all updated with how my current employer reacts. I've told them again that I'll be WFH for the duration of my notice so I'm sure they'll be kicking up a stink over that.

But strawberry float 'em!

This will be so funny. They'll have no clue you're even considering leaving.

Did you have to get a reference from your current employer for any of the interviews you've been doing? Perhaps that's why they've been working extra hard at being banana splits recently?

Don't references usually only get called up once someone has actually accepted a job or even started?

That should be the case, yeah. At least so far, I haven't been asked for references by anyone.

Edit - The cuntishness comes from them creating their new HR role. It's given them the confidence to lay down their unreasonable laws more aggressively.

Interesting, my experience (and therefore assumption about the general process) was that referees are contacted before someone is made an offer. After all there is no point in finding out something negative about a potential employee after you have already made them an offer!

Where I work I think they ask for references in the first week and will hold up payment/end the probation period unless it comes through. Something like that anyway

I'm sure it's the other way around, as contacting for references while still employed gives the game away.

This would be poor form by the recruiting company because you're alerting somene's employer they are interviewing for other jobs before they have agreed to work for you. Most companies have a policy of only confirming employment when contacted for references anyway.

Like I say this has always been the way it happens in my experience (and anecdotally what I've heard from others) so my assumption was that this was standard.

Some quick googling seems to suggest that this is the case as well, with reference checks happening when they have whittled the pool of potentials down to a few candidates but definitely before they have made an offer

Isn't that why you're not supposed to give your current bosses as a refferer? I've always been advised to give former and current colleagues I can trust.
