Last day at my old job was Friday, went into the office (for the first time in almost a year and a half!) yesterday to give in my gun & my badge /laptop & access card and now have three weeks off before I start my new job 8-)

Not doing anything in particular with my time off, see some friends and family, couple of trips into town, exercise and home/gardening stuff. But so far it is glorious :toot:

That sounds awesome BTB. Love a guilt free complete break from work.

Iv estarted flexing my hours - doing 8am to 5.30 and having Fridays off.

This is my second week. The longer days are a bit knackering but working from home makes up for a lot of it. Plus those 3 days weekends are lush af.

Just got my first full month's wage :datass: It's not crazy money but it's the most I've earned in a month :msgreen: And in another two months I'll be eligible for the bonuses :datass:

Did you find it difficult securing that arrangement?

I'm in the public sector and our organisational policies state that managers can't refuse a reasonable flexible working request. So no, wasn't too bad getting it arranged, just dropped the odd "better for my mental health" in official discussions.

I chatted to my close colleagues about it first to make sure it wouldn't impact them too much. I've just moved from a role that is a bit more reactive to a role that is more structured and plannable so it's very easy to make sure Fridays have nothing important on.

My partner has also done this in her role, although her role is a bit more reactive as she has to deal with panicky student queries a lot.(nothing urgent as it's future postgrads enrolling, so just admin queries. Of course to them it's the most urgent thing in the world). Her train of thought is "they're adults, they can wait an extra day".

Anywho, nice to have 3 day weekends at the same time as her even if for now I'm slightly more knackered in the week.

My wife does those hours to have fridays off. Im always so jealous on a thursday evening thst she's finished for the week. Earliest I can finish by working longer days is 2.30, but that was mostly stopped with wfh.

In my previous job, hardly anyone ever went to the office on Fridays. One day I was the only person who turned up at the office and I had a lovely late breakfast at the cafe next door around 10:30. Two people turned up at 12PM briefly and then left and one girl asked me to put her laptop in an Uber so it would be taken to her home.

When ever people talk about not working Fridays I just think of that episode of malcome in the middle where it's revealed Hal skipped Fridays for years, and instead spent the time having a nice day out by himself - completely unknown to his family.

I worked compressed hours 3 days a week so I think I was actually doing 4 fulltime days and I also did two of those from home after having a lot of stress issues. It helped before the company downsized and I left. I worked another job on and off on the other 2 days so I actually did pretty well some months, then I lost that job as well and a couple of years later here I am working whenever I am capable of working as I don't have to pander to management about the importance of wellness and it doesn't simply mean I am lazy, it means I have a ceiling I didn't choose and I accept that, I don't mind if I earn less. I'm still doing the job of several people at times in the business but I no longer do that in somebody's pocket.

Had to work from home today and I hated it.

Missed my colleagues and the office atmosphere

Still knackered but other covid symptoms mostly gone away. Obligatory return to work to mountains of paperwork, minor cutbacks and trying to figure out what the strawberry float I had planned before coming down with two viruses back to back.

And most stuff I can do is pointless anyway because I'm moving in 2 weeks.

Do you think you'd have felt the same at your old employer?
