This may sound stupid because I don't network much and am shy, but, if someone dicloses their full name and mobile number in addition to their previous signaure which didn't give their full name (in case of like, harassment after an application is rejected I guess), and just the name of the organisation, they would be interested in hearing from you, right?

I applied to a major exhibition in London and am on the reserve list i.e. shortlist, and I followed up saying thanks and why basically it's really hard to get into these shows because my work is actually very different and quite innovative (to quote my old lecturer) plus I have some disabilites. Then they added their name/mob saying my reply was very interesting and they'll keep it in mind.

I am wondering what to do, as they are saying they will follow up on the reserve list after sorting out logistics/cancellations on the definite selections by Oct 12. It's quite common the first choice professionals won't actually be available and apply to lots of different things beforehand, or they just aren't sure. There's a massive amount of space available at the venue so it's unlikely that's actually a problem unless they have like 20-50 artists.

I've never done a major exhibition after graduate shows in 2012, so it could be a big thing for me. I actually listed my work in the application for several thousand pounds. It's the lead curator for the show that's probaby had a couple hundred applications for this thing run by an arts group that's been doing multiple annual exhibitions in London since 1952. If you are accepted for one of their open call shows you join the group to do more exhibitions.

Sounds like they were just being polite. Maybe give them a chase nearer to October 12th?

OK, I don't want to come on too hard. Just getting tired of being rejected for stupid stuff like local craft fairs for bullshit reasons like they need a diversity of things when nobody really does the quality or range of stuff I do which is all original.

Been trying to apply for more fine art prizes and exhibitions and things like that and was expecting a full on rejection because it'll be some other terrible painter stuck in last century winning things but was quite pleased just to hear I was a runner up of sorts. There are questions like "how the strawberry float do we even install this" when it comes to my work, so, while it's different, it presents a challenge.

Hopefully something changes and they give a chance, but deep down I care very little about pandering to these sorts of things. I haven't got a chance if I don't at least try to do stuff in society though, besides shipping things out of random people on the internet that discover my skillz.

The horrendous manager I had at university has finally gone (and interestingly makes zero reference to to their years spent there on their online CV, so I wonder what happened), so, I've been thinkign about approaching them again for some sign-making work. I'd be better off e-mailing galleries etc. to do the same thing as an external contractor, perhaps. I loath depending on any single employer in this climate.

Meh, don't really know what the strawberry float I'm doing at the minute. Just making signs to sell for X-mas, maybe.

Didn't get the job for reasons I would describe as unsubstantive.

Basically whilst I understood everything else about the role except one of the specific parts of the business we will be building product enhancements for, they've gone with somebody who an SME is that area but has no clue about Agile or the IT stuff.

I am extremely ticked off about it, to the point I actually left the office for the day because I needed to decompress. Based on the merit of the decision, as soon as this person applied for the post the job was hers.

Yeah that's tough.

I can appreciate to an extent where they are coming from with the SME angle, subject matter knowledge is very important and absolutely needs to be a part of the picture, but I think it's the wrong call to go for that person in a PO role if they don't have the Agile knowledge or the IT background.

Judging by what everyone has been sharing in the "annoy" thread recently it seems like this behaviour is basically mandatory for any office job these days anyway!

Anyway I have withdrawn from the event and realise under the terms and conditions I am still liable to donate £100 to the charity. I decided to ignore it but the communications team at my work place have emailed me asking me to donate and then send them a receipt as proof. WTF?
Should I pay it or just ignore them as they are only an internal department...not like they will fire me or take me to court.

Currently customer trying to define the colour of a solid colour sign with a hex code. Ask for a high resolution PSD or PDF, get sent the same compressed JPEG with 10 skeuomorphic design elements that looks almost as if some kind of hand painted enamel thing scanned in and "enhanced" in Photoshop, except with a bigger margin around the side. Same old.

A few too many discussions orienting around the right green when there's a choice of 6 - and that's a wide range by most standards.

I'm not paying 4 grand upwards for a solvent printer just so people can pick from a limited range of the 16 million colours displayable by their PC / smartphone screen.

Almost 3 hours on the email ticket. Despair. Most work I've had in weeks though so can't complain.
