I'm making my debut back here because I've got to go back to work tomorrow morning for the first time since good friday. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck I don't want to work this is awful lmao.
Back half an hour and I already feel pissed off - they emailed me on my week off to complain about the most mundane stupid non issue that I've ever seen. They ignore the 100s of things I do perfectly then pick up on small stupid mistakes literally anyone would make when they're overworked and turn them into massive issues. strawberry float them.

You really do seem to hate your place of work, have you considered looking for somewhere else?

I'm trying, but sadly it's not that simple for me. If I go anywhere else I'll need to take a pay cut based on everything I've seen and I can't really afford that cut. I'm somewhat trapped here.
Someone, who is currently on annual leave, has sent me several emails throughout the day today. What is wrong with people? No skin off my nose but if they want to be taken for a mug by management, that's their decision.
Landed the promotion I was going for. I'm public sector so they had to open it up to and interview external candidates which, while a ballache, has helped me overcome my tendency to indulge my imposter syndrome, as they deffo had other choices and still went for me.

Got a load of team restructure stuff happening at the moment and at least temporarily I'm going to be a sort of senior ish developer for a bit.
The system I work on is being re-written soon to use a microservice architecture and the current system is going to be handed to a team of effectivly contractors to keep ticking along while we sort the new system. There is still a couple new bits to go into the old system which I've doing over the next couple of months while also getting the contractors up to speed.
While getting them ready I will be doing their code reviews and coaching / mentoring them to ensure they can do the job we need them to do which is cool. Means I can learn the senior stuff without as much pressure on me which is good. Hopefully it will go well and then mean a "proper" promition to senior a little faster which would be nice.
I feel so mentally exausted after work today. I think it's finally time I take looking for something new seriously. I'm going to make it hard for myself as I want something that's fully WFH, but hopefully I can find something that I might enjoy doing. That and later this year I'm going to apply to JET which if I get in will allow me to go work in local government somewhere in Japan for a year at the very least.

I don't think it will be as hard as you think to find that sort of thing. Our Dev, test and it infrastructure jobs are all apply from anywhere and work from home now.
This is a really dumb question but where are the best places to look for jobs? I got lucky finding my first one so I didn't really spend long looking lol

My industry (accountancy) is very recruitment agency focused. I'm not sure if that's an option in yours, but it can't hurt as a starting point.
That I cant help with I've also generally got lucky. For my current one I looked on their website as they are a big local company, for the NHS I was already there as a contractor via Reed

Brush up your LinkedIn and have the recruiters come to you. Just make sure you're really specific on your skills and experience. They spam out to dozens of people at a time and don't understand all the IT terminology so can get wires crossed. E.g. I work with a lot of Azure AD and Microsoft identity management technologies, but they often ask me about Azure infrastructure roles for which I lack the skills.
We've had our risk assessment about reopening the library this week. It's mostly sensible stuff (I feel somethings could go a bit further). It's pretty clear that we have to be pretty strict with the things we can enforce. The library manager has basically overruled a lot of stuff saying "we need to be flexible, we need to get visitor numbers and computer bookings up. I'm hoping you'll all be flexible and I don't see any of you being jobsworths".
They also helps me figure out if there's are large organisations in the area, then if I like the sound of them I subscribe to their direct job listing email updates
I also regularly check more local things directly
Local Government and Councils Transportation Bodies Education Providers (Not all their jobs will be teaching)
Think of companies you think might have heard of, there might be an office near by. AMD, Intel, Microsoft all have offices in the UK. There's loads of game design companies that need more than just designers.
I would get a quite a few keyworks you want to search for, and the devote a bit of time each day. Look at stuff that you think you're qualified for, and stuff you want to do in 5 years. Do people who post jobs you would like to do in 5 years post lower jobs, and like to brag about training their staff? Subscribe to their email alerts.
Keep checking things each day, and you'll soon notice patterns. The same recruitment agencies, the same big players. Soon your daily checking will get quicker, and you'll know what to avoid. Soon after a couple weeks of this you should have a decent list of employers you're subscribed to their email alerts, and you've maybe reduced the amount of key words you're searching for on the big sites because you've realised only a few of them get decent hits.
Take your time, try not to feel overwhelmed. There's a lot of crap out there, but you'll get used to sieving through it.
I recall https://www.cwjobs.co.uk/ being a pretty good place for IT focused jobs, but I haven't really been looking for ages. My current place I applied for directly on the company website and just got lucky that the job posting was there at the time the company I was at before were getting rid of all the IT/Facilities/HR staff to outsource to India.
Does everyone really have a LinkedIn profile? I've never used it and have never seemed to need it. I've always just applied to jobs directly or gone through agency.
