I got ass-blasted yesterday, not for coming in late, but for sitting down at my desk at 9:02. I was told I have to be at my desk working at 9, even though I got into the office for 9.

Same thing happened today, but this time 9:01. Shocking. If it happens again, I'll goad him to fire me over being 1 minute late T O S I T D O W N

Too right, that's 60 seconds of company time you're wasting!

Seriously though that is ridiculous. I really hate people who are so obsessed over things like this which, for the most part, don't have any bearing on the quality or effectiveness of someones work and being this uptight about it is just going to piss people off.

Yes there are situations where timing is absolutely critical, and many jobs will be heavily dependant on people being in the right place at the right time, but when that isn't the case is there really any difference between sitting down at 9:02 and 9:00? If you're doing the work, doing it well, not taking the piss over timings, and are prepared to be precise about them when it really matters then people should let you get on with it!

That's strawberry floating ridiculous. If it takes you a minute to get to your desk, that's not your fault at all.

Do you have 1 to 1s? Point out that if they want to be so exact with timings that's their prerogative, but in that case you'll be always taking a full hour lunch and dropping everything the second the clock hits 5pm (adjust to actual hours accordingly).

It's in absolutely no one's interest for it to be like that. I would start recording your hours too so you can come back to them with "look I am doing my time".

If you do your time and are always there for your core hours, can't see the problem. You and your company can be flexible or rigid on hours, you should ask them whether they want you to always be just a 9-5 person or they would like some give and take on both sides.

Yes?

Sat in a toilet cubicle at work when I hear the outer door burst open and someone hurriedly making their way into the adjacent cubicle. Uh oh, this can't be good.

What followed was several incredibly uncomfortable minutes of me sitting there listening to the most awful sounding bowel evacuation I think I have ever been witness to. It sounded like he was holding onto the walls at one point. :dread:

I had to stay sealed in my cubicle as firstly I didn't want to expose myself to whatever the hell might have been expunged into the nearby atmosphere, but also because I had no desire to see who was the perpetrator of this gastrointestinal catastrophe. I wouldn't be able to look them in the eye again.

I feel dirty just recounting the "incident".

I may never use the toilet again for fear of a re-run*

Having somewhat recovered from this ordeal I went to get myself a drink from the office kitcehn and just spotted what looks like a hastily abandoned Huel drinks bottle. I wonder if these two things are connected...

I turn up early and be exact with timing too. I must admit I'm never in a rush to get in but I hate being late. Second it's clocking offbtime though I'm outta there. :shifty:

Disappointing, thought this was leading to a sex in the cubicle story, not some animal doing a gooseberry fool.

I have also been stuck beside someone in the loo that is having a painful ass explosion. It's awful.

I handed in my notice yesterday. It's like a massive weight has been taken off my shoulders and I'm already feeling happier about my life.

It's a three month period in which I'll be continuing to work overtime. I'm walking away from a job, which to be honest, is a fairly easy way to make 36k a year. It's also a job I spent four years at university doing a specific qualification for and a further two years training, the sum of which is not easily transferable into a different industry. In moving into a different job, for which I have nothing specific as of yet (but some ideas), I will most likely be on at least 10k less.

So you have to ask yourself why would I quit a job I wanted to do as a child, in something I have been fascinated by my entire life. It must be pretty gooseberry fool right? Yup, working for the Met Office really is that gooseberry fool.

Interesting to see if I have taken back my resignation in two and a half months after a minor panic. :slol:
