There have been a lot of requests to leave early over the last few weeks, and whilst I appreciate that this is sometimes unavoidable, we do need to limit this as much as possible.

Unfortunately, we are not contracted on a flexi time basis, so we are expected to be here for our contracted hours.

Going forward, short of an emergency/unavoidable situation (child care etc) I would expect to have at least 24 hours notice, and requests made on the day will be rejected.

He gave himself 24 hours notice.

He said it is "sometimes unavoidable", he said "we do need to limit" he didn't say stop, and medical appointments are different which his would be with an NHS project so could be classed as medical, seems reasonable to me. Sounds like someone is mad jelly they didn't get to play boss man.

Nobody has a problem with him going for a medical appointment. I doubt anybody would have a problem with him leaving early just because he wanted an early pint at the pub.

The problem is he demands notice if anybody wants to leave early. He then leaves early and people only found out as he was walking out of the door. He would not accept that the other way around, which makes him a hypocritical twat.

FFS Moggy, he is senior management. "Do as I say, not as I do".

In unrelated news, resignation letter all typed up and ready for Monday.

Yes?

Senior management at our place have got hot on this lately.
Emails about how we're all part of a team, we're breaking down hierarchies, everyone gets the same treatment and respect.

A few days later we get an email with:

Reminder that travel expenses should be kept below £X amount.
Reminder that meal expenses should be kept below £X amount.
Reminder that on Fridays you can't leave before 3pm.
Reminder that you should only work from home one day a week unless agreed with your line manager in certain circumstances (appointments, etc).

Of course none of the managers seem to have to abide by these, some of them leaving at 2pm today, others working from home most of the week, almost all posting expenses that exceed the limits. But remember! Everyone gets the same treatment and respect.

I bought a really massive saw. And Royal Mail wouldn't accept payment for postage in the night.

That's what I did at work today. Exciting.

Going to see a recruitment consultant this week for advice on how to move on.

After nearly 5 years of engineering in a power distribution network I have concluded that this industry is pretty dead end with very few opportunities to move up and poor salaries.

I just feel sick that I wasted 5 years of my life in this industry but at least it has given me a foot into the door of a business world of some sort. Most likely going to restart my career in a different industry via a new graduate scheme even though my degree is 8 years old now.

Will be interesting to see what the recruitment consultant will have to offer me in terms of engineering though. I feel that my knowledge in network design is so niche that I won't qualify for anything. Funny even though I have worked in this business for 5 years it feels like I am no different to someone who started only yesterday.

What I do have more off though are scenarios to those endless competency based questions haha not actual engineer experience or any new qualifications.

Nice one ^^^ It was actually the annual Chester raft race today. Again I did not attend

telecoms? As in BT? I've not worked in telecoms before and a lot of job adverts always state they require x and x amount of experience. I guess I could apply and just see what happens when I apply for the experienced hire roles.

I've made 3 applications this weekend. Going to keep the momentum going.

Oh my strawberry floating god. There was an actual bar at the back of the plane. I made friends with a bunch of posh people and drank a lot of champagne and whisky and right now I am strawberry floated. Just drank three coffees in a row and I need to be sick. Getting my connecting flight in about 4 hours but not sure I'll make it there alive.
