My boss has no interest in taking Christmas off so I get two weeks’ leave every year. :msgreen:

...bit of an awkward place to drop this, right after more of Zilnad’s work being shite, but I’ll roll with it.

As I see it, Christmas leave should be allocated fairly according to demand and what the business can afford without risking BAU.

Personal circumstances, i.e. families, children etc shouldn't come into it. If Karen who has no friends and lives alone wants some time over Christmas off, she's just as entitled as anybody.

I am fortunate that in my team nobody is interested in taking Christmas off this year so I can take as much or as little as I like.

I usually take the same weeks off every year and because we can't book more than a year in advance, first day back I always book the week off in the next year.

I don't even bother taking Christmas off, I take the first year off of the new year when it gets busy. It's dead in my job over Christmas. It's free real estate.

That’s my boss’ take too. Nice and quiet, because all the noisy people like me are out.

Taking the whole year off in the new year is audacious, I'll give you that

I used to get the main week and the week before off when it was easier to line up leave with my partner. Now we just have the main middle three days off as she's mandated by her work to take them, although this year mine is only 'tentatively accepted'. :dread:

No responses from the jobs I applied for but I managed to win the battle to WFH so I'm just continuing to do that for now. Will seriously have to start trying to find something else once WFH ends though. Thank you for asking.

The last few years I've stuck a spreadsheet online with all the Christmas dates on them (21-31 Dec this year) and told everyone to put down what they'd like to take, advising that I'll make a decision after all the requests are in.

The process is a complete and total sham. Every time I just accept everything. I don't have it in me to ruin anyone's Christmas. Avid followers of this thread might recall when I got threatened with the sack in 2016 because of something similar (wasn't quite annual leave but related Christmas shenanigans) when there was no cover for half an hour at one point  thank strawberry float the awful days of Psycho Director feel so far behind me.

After a PowerPoint presentation on the Office Parties of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come, Ob Bob hurriedly throws open his office door:

"You there, Janet. What day is today?"

"4th December."

"Well you have Christmas off, everyone does. Merry Christmas to all!"

At our workplace the whole office is meant to muck in with the warehouse and do a full stock check between Christmas and New Years and despite Covid it was still going ahead. :dread:

I've managed to get the last two years off from doing it but knew this year I wouldn't be able to get away with it. However the majority of the office has been furloughed during Lockdown 1 and 2, while I had to work fulltime the whole thing as I run the biggest account in the company. So I've had no holiday all year because I've been stuck at home with nowhere to go. Roll forward last week and I'm questioned by the boss what I'm going to do with all the extra holiday I've accrued this year as it can't be carried over.....

Well after already hitting my sales target this year of €6.5m, I'm now finishing work on 19th December and not back until Jan 4th  Finance manager who organises the stock check isn't happy I've managed to weasle out of it for another year but hey who's going to argue with the boss. :datass:

Off from the 19th, back in on the 4th over here.

Would have been a whopping 12th - 5th if we could still go to America. Oh well!
