I've just dialed into a companywide meeting and it's started with 5 minutes of "COME TO THE OFFICE!" propaganda.

They had some guy on at the end saying "we hope to see you three days a week if you're hybrid!"

LOL

I said I'd do two but I've been doing one and haven't been called out on it. Nobody realises when I'm not in the office.

Surely in that case people going in less would be better for them.

But then the execs don't feel like they're in charge.

Managers love to describe Hybrid working as "Not a one size fits all approach" despite it literally being one size fits all approach. It's also an approach that ultimately, pleases absolutely nobody. The ones pushing for the in-office side of it want people in the office all the time and the ones pushing for the work from home side of it probably don't want to be in the office at all, or certainly not every week. So ultimately nobody ends up being at all happy with it.

We’ve been told they are counting heads through how many people swipe keycards at entry doors. Incredibly petty if true. I can’t be arsed with getting up earlier and sitting in a far too hot office making small talk

That is straight up gooseberry fool. I bet they start blaming everyone for the reduced productivity and higher turnover.

My workplace has not even mentioned going back in since last year. The rumour mill is super effective at my workplace, as soon as someone from below c suit finds out then everyone knows.

Depends somewhat on why people want to be in the office. If it's to be around other people then yeah, they probably want everyone in - but if it's just because they don't have a good work environment at home, then it probably does please everyone to give them the option of an office.

It suits those of us who like doing 1 or 2 days in the office and the rest at home 8-)

Hybrid is a compromise.

Its giving people working at home time while also getting everyone in the office to try and keep some form of social interaction between colleagues to maintain some kind of culture.

Quite a few people actually like it, you may not but you clearly don't want to work in an office at all.
Clearly you need to leave your employer for someone that will allow 100% at home, and you might want to do it sooner rather than later as from the sounds of it you are sort of shitting over your professional relationship with them by being so stubborn.

This, tbh it sounds like you are better off trying to find a new job that allows you more flexibility, or at least closer to where you live.

I'm melting in the office today, if I was at home I'd be in my underwear by now haha

Everyone I know who likes it, other than bosses who like to feel powerful, are people who hate their family. The kind who constantly moan about their spouses and kids.

Makes sense to me, I LOVED being able to spend lockdown with my partner and stepdaughter. By the time we get home now and do the little jobs we would do on our breaks during the day in lockdown - laundry, dishes etc - it's not long until bed time.

I can say anecdotally no one I directly work with wants it either. My own line manager has said we have to play the game regarding attendance until the focus is off it or they’ll take it away from us, he’d rather stay home too

Work to live, don't live to work.

Yep. I work from home basically full time. I go in about one or two days a fortnight for whole team meetings. This means I can have all the household jobs done and sorted before my partner gets home from work. This gives us loads more time to spend together in the evenings.

I currently go into the office two days a week (not obligatory, but 'encouraged') and I quite enjoy it

It's nice to see colleagues and catch up in person, office is air conditioned which has been very handy last few weeks, I'm probably more productive in the office as I can get distracted easily at home and it means I'm in central London so I can do something after work easily if I want to.

I also enjoy WFH and the idea of going back to 5 days a week in the office isn't worth thinking about.

The company I work for has had record half year profits but we are woefully understaffed and have received record levels of business.

The manager's keep saying how good it is we are doing so well, it provides opportunities to get promotions and means your job is more than likely secure. All true

The flip side is it's an open secret the owners who are private investors want to sell the business so long and short this is all about making the business more attractive to whomever should wish to buy the business. Basically we are all slogging away to make someone else a lot of money and probably a nice bonus for the CEO.

Why couldn't we grow the business at a more sustainable rate? We don't have to do it at the current pace and could grow at a rate that is better for everyone.

It just annoys me but there is nothing I can do.
