If people are overworked and stressed just tell them this is nothing, standard encouragement from manager.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

You don't know you're born! Back in my day, we had to close tickets uphill both ways in the snow!

And we were thankful for that!

Still waiting to hear back from the first job I interviewed for 3 weeks last Wednesday (sent a polite e-mail on Wednesday asking for an ETA and they are still interviewing)

I applied for another one in the meantime and I have the job and I was offered it today but I don't really know how I feel about it as its 100% working from home as the head office is the other end of the country. I'm worried if I hate working from home and its not for me, I know lots of you guys love it but I have so much anxiety about making the choice to go and not being happy but I'm happy in my current job its just that they are one of the worst payers in the industry.

Its the same job I do now and pays £6,500 more than I earn at the moment and you get another £1.5k payrise after getting your lending mandate.

I really want to hear back from the first company but I have no idea if I will be successful

I don’t see an issue with you going back to ‘Company A’ and letting them know you’ve now got an offer on the table from Company B, but you’re really interested in Co.A and would love the chance to work for them if they are interested.

If your heart isn’t in Co.B then if you do take it there is a strong chance you’ll end up leaving sooner than you think.

Be careful not to give the impression you’re using Co.B’s offer to try and force Co.A’s hand and offer you more £ though.its a tricky balancing act for sure.

Do Co.A know you were speaking with other companies? If so, you’ve been up front and honest with them and they should appreciate your continued openness re Co.B offer.

No I have not told them, not being sneaky its just that I'm a private person and the opportunity came up when I wasn't necessarily looking for it

There is literally no chance of them offering me a payrise at my place, I'm less than £500 from the top of my banding and to match the salary would make me higher paid than a lot of the managers

It's just the working from home is my main concern, what could be great at first could be a negative a year down the line

Yeah, but if stay where you are won't you be unhappy in less than a year anyway?

FWIW I’ve been working from home every day since 17 March this year due to Covid. Previously I worked 1 day a week from home, every week. Max 2 days a week.

Despite daily Zoom calls with my team, I’ve been dead bored during the last few weeks of constant WFH. I’m missing the noise and odd conversations that just happen in an office environment.

My advice would be to be prepared for loneliness if you sign up to something that is 100% WFH. Some people thrive in that environment, others don’t. Only you know how you feel about it.

Good luck

But then does that extra £8k(!) salary per year with no commute cost/time make up for it?

I feel like if I have never had it then I will never miss it, when I tell people I feel I will be judged if I turn it down but it's my life, I have had jobs I have hated before and I don't want to be unhappy!!! It's a shame my current employer have not trialled working from home so I could have tried it out!!!

I have been reaching out to a few people who work from home, ex-colleagues and friends and it is a real mixed bag response, if it was 50/50 it would be a dead easy decision but the office will be 2 hours away so screw that!!!!

I think I might stick where I am, mention it to my manager as they might offer me more money but that is highly unlikely and maybe I take it as I do have something to offer another employer and if opportunities come up locally then that will be the time to seek out opportunities

That is my main concern, its the office drama and the banal stuff I think that I would miss most though I should be more mature and ignore that stuff

I would definitely go for the new offer. If you don't enjoy remote working you can always go to a WeWork (or similar) post pandemic, no?

Had a look at WeWork just now, nearest is Cambridge which is an hour in the car/30 mins by train but that seems counter productive to pay for office space, if I was on mega money or S/E then maybe that would be a good idea but my salary is only £27,500 at the moment (don't mean that flipantly by the way)

Would it be possible to use wework just a few times a month? Maybe just 'top up' your resistance to working from home. Try to go for a blended approach? You obviously looked for a new job for a reason, and considering the salary bump it feels worth giving it a try for a year.
But full disclosure I love working from home, even if I'm just in the kitchen table. The extra time I save from the commute is a life changer for me.

^ this, even more so if you'll increase your salary by almost a third.

Dilema solved!!!

The original job I applied for 4 weeks ago offered me the position and I didn't have to think to accept this one which I think says a lot, its a payrise but not as much as the other place but its an expanding company and although its initially homeworking they will have an office in Peterborough soon so it won't be forever.

The other job felt like a sideways step basically doing the same as I do now but this is a step up to something new and I think the long term potential will be better career wise so I see this as the long game rather than quick short term rewards

Work is so busy again this week, but only for me. People in the office have it easy but the one client I'm looking after this week is exploding and I'm getting constant tickets, it's so frustrating. I just want an easy day for once.

All share certificates issued and documents in the post to Companies House. Hopefully will be processed by Christmas and should be ready to tell you guys more come the New Year.
