It's a big project with a deadline (although it will likely take months, maybe even longer - I'm on a 6 month contract on it at the moment), I guess they've had to guarantee completion to some degree and now need to hit that (and Covid doesn't help, slows things down). So the long hours are Monday to Friday to get it done. It amounts to 10 hours overtime a week, every week, so at least that will be a little bit more in my pay.

Going to be tough being outdoors through winter in Hull for ten hours a day though.

Only problem is it doesn't matter how much overtime they're giving you, making people work more hours over such a long period is only going to make everyones work worse. That's overworking to the nth degree.

It's very much how this kind of work goes. Everyone is bussed in and housed in specific accommodation at the site while it's under way so we're all away from home and our free time is not as free time would be if I was at home. To some extent we want it over with quicker too so we can get back home.

Two people at work have handed there notice in, good, respected experienced staff members and how are the managers going to sell it?

"we've trained them so well they can leave"

What the hell!!! They are leaving as they are getting £10k payrise for doing the same job elsewhere and because our management are spineless

Haha!

Actually we're exhuming a Victorian cemetery in advance of a road expansion, going to be cool and creepy.

Unfortunately, it probably won't be anywhere near complete in two weeks to be able to throw a Halloween party on-site.

What a missed opportunity.

That six month deadline is absolutely getting extended if Barry Dobbs gets wind of a Victorian cemetery being exhumed.

Wasn't that basically the setup for Cockneys vs Zombies?

This person does this a lot, and will just call with no context, usually to read through an email you've sent days before, for the first time while talking to them, and then ask you want you mean.

I had that recently from a supplier.

I got sent a credit statement for some stock that was sent to me by accident I.e. I owe them money. No I strawberry floating don't, you sent me the wrong stuff, so arrange to collect it.

I wrote back to returns saying please send more personalised comms so I can understand why I've been sent a credit demand for unpaid balance, rather than just a PDF because on its own that doesn't really make sense.

Phone me up just to read my own sentence out and ask, "What do you mean?"

"I mean sending PDFs alone lacks context and I would like a personalised note in the email, explaining the reason for sending me that document/demand notice/whatever, rather than just, hi, regards, PDF attachment".

"Yes but what do you mean?"

"Sorry I'm confused, are you offended by my email?"

"No. Just not sure what you meant by that."

Jesus

Turns out the credit demand was sent by another department but why send me a payment demand for something htat's marked for a return due to their own mistake. That's the organisation not talking together which isn't my problem, it's two contradictory things. I should only be receiving a demand for payment for goods that I purchased, not one sent to me in error, that haveen't been collected yet. If they want their property back... Send a courier. Weird.

:dread: One of my customers wanted to drop items off at 8am today to be printed because "elderly family member helping out can only do that time". Job was booked last Friday but were at a screen printer for 5 work days... But I'm expected to do it in 1. When I've just found out my mum has cancer and am off sick ffs, and I've told them that. This my last job for a while.

My operating hours start at 11am and hapilly take drop-offs and collections throughout the day or the evening... But no got to drag myself out of bed at 7:30am for one customer. strawberry floating nope. I replied saying "Please I can take delivery of the items between normal business hours 11am to 8pm, thank you" and I got back talk. Don't explain to me why you MUST drop them off at the crack of dawn in Autumn, just arrange a sensible time during the hours I work.

What kind of business is open at 8am to take deliveries anyway? Some people are completely unempathetic in these respects, they can't imagine the bigger picture. What if I start meeting customers at 8am, what's next, 6am? 10pm? Drop off at 10pm and collected during their lunch hour the next day? I don't care if you own a shop or whatever - if you can't do stuff during your own business hours, why the strawberry float should I take time out of my off-work hours?

This very frequently happens if you're self-employed / own a business even from other business owners!

And to top it off it's my cheapest customer, I think the total spend on their account over a few years is less than what I took in one single sale from one customer in the past 30 days

Need opinions please:

Won an award as part of a team a couple of months ago. The award is in the client's name (I'm consulting for them, and contributed a ton to the project). Is it disingenuous to start my LinkedIn profile with "Award winning consultant who...."?

That's the exact flimsy excuse a meth lab builder would use.
