I wouldn’t say they were scumbags but they were definitely taking the piss.

Mad woman I work with has been driving me crazy all day. She just will not shut up! It is so distracting.

It’s especially irritating as she reckons she lost an hour of time yesterday chatting and lost an hour this morning as well. She’s was then worried that she’ll be here until 7.30pm making up the time and so asked for a half day which was approved. That was this morning and she is still here now as she still hasn’t got enough hours because she will not shut up.

Wasting half a days holiday because you just can’t stop talking.

Banking 8 hours of overtime today. Just give me that moolah.

She's still here. She's now switched off her computer but has gone to chat to somebody about her dentist appointment being cancelled and so she will be in at her normal time on Monday.

I agree OR, chatting on internet forums doesn't drive everybody else in the office crazy.

I spent the entire day interviewing potential temp employees to replace my existing temp employees, because we have a general recruitment freeze that has been in place since February.

I am being forced to do some online training modules, among them accessibility, asbestos, and chemical safety, despite the fact that I have a desk job.

The first modules talk about how important accessibility is and all that. The last two modules about chemicals and stuff are slide shows where they've converted the text, which is very small, into static jpg's.

Started a new role in a new department (Accounting Services) last week, the opportunities open to me now to move on within finance are great

Anyone here in that line of work and can recommend a good path to follow? I’ve looked at courses like ACCA (all which my company will pay for) but wondered what other options might be available that I should consider looking into?

I believe Tragic passed his ACCA so he might be worth quoting to drop in.

I'm currently studying ACCA, it seems to be the most popular choice. There's AAT at a more basic level, and CIMA and ACA are other alternatives. Can't say I know much about the other choices tbh. But I'm enjoying ACCA so far. Tax exam this morning was a bitch though

My company is paying for me to go and do this because I said I had an interest in getting into project management.

The idea of a company assisting you bettering yourself, and paying for you to do a course is so foreign to me. My employer would tell me to just do it in my own time at my own cost, or see it as an admission I'm not skilled enough to do my job.

Drumstick, any reason you're not doing a PRINCE2, I hear that being thrown about a lot with project management roles.

My employers really encourage people to get qualifications, and they pay for everything. Mine's going to be a good 5-6 grand all told, and I know hundreds of people who have been paid for by my work. And that's just accountants, we've got swarms of actuaries with the same deal.

Even better is I'm already in a grade that's usually for fully qualified people so I'm getting all the salary early

Cheers everyone, going to have a look into these different courses and see which one sounds best for me.

It’s something I would look at starting next year as I have only just started in the department so want to have time to settle before I jump into doing a course.

I have worked at my company for ten years this month. It's only in the last 3 or 4 years they've started trying to help employees develop themselves and even then if you're on the bottom rung then don't bother asking.

I didn't choose the course. I am aware of PRINCE2 and have had a look, though they seem to cover very similar stuff. This is only supposed to be an introductory course so if I think it's something I want to pursue as a career then I'll look into it more seriously.

Isn't PRINCE 2 seen as a bit outdated now? I just know that it has been around for a while and the last time I have heard it mentioned people have tended to turn their noses up at it!

Not a scooby. APM was awarded royal charter a few years back so hopefully it's not completely gooseberry fool.
