Kind of glad I can avoid the office for a while, but I do wonder if I'll eventually get lonely.

Speaking from experience I give it about a week until you start to talk to yourself and make tea every couple of minutes with an obvious sense of disappointment that no-one is in the kitchen. Or, you might absolutely love it and never return.

I have mixed feelings

My only friends in the office either work from home constantly or we're never in the office at the same time, so I couldn't give a damn about seeing the others :slol:

Both of the teams I'm in at at work are now working from home until further notice.
Though we've organised daily slack/Skype conference calls just for some kind of human interaction dyring the day to avoid going stir crazy.

I'm really strawberry floating angry with my company. Thursday last week I asked if I could avoid going to London as it was sending my anxiety into overdrive. Today I was forced to go in but they promised it would just be for today and now they're forcing me back in tomorrow. strawberry float sake man.

Everything I did at the clients today I could've done remote. There is 0 reason for me needing to go there and we're bending over backwards still going in because they haven't told their staff they can work from home yet.

This is a strawberry floating joke man.

If you are suffering from anxiety your employer MUST provide reasonable adjustments, which includes remote working "privileges" (yeah they will call it that) and flexible on-site placements.

If they are not doing that then they are breaking the law and your should contact HR, if they fire you then there's hopefully a little in the pot to take them to an employment tribunal however given your work history I would not expect that to happen. If it did go to a tribunal then they may be forced to pay your compensation for unfair dismissal or reinstate your job, or both.

If they keep pushing it, go to to your GP for a sick note granting you SSP but offer to keep working anyway, provided you are not required to work off site as this will simply make you worse and not productive. They won't have a choice otherwise than to keep you in work because they need the staff and you are only doing what you can to support them despite suffering. Your doctor may ask you to fill out a simple questionnaire, fill this out based on the times you have felt worst and they will give you a note or a prescription or a suitable referral to get help.

If you have an occupational health team they are also required to forward you to them. Your job should not be causing you anxiety and if it is then it is the employer's responsibility to help you with this. If they do not help you or ignore your requests then this is illegal.

If you are suffering from stress you also have a right to self-certify for 2 days and then get an appointment from your GP to acquire a doctors note, and then claim SSP. I would do that as the 2nd stage because if your employer won't allow you to work without forcing your self to become ill then you have no other choice than to take sick leave and that is your right.

Tomorrow should be the last day I have to go in, but it's all for a really dumb reason as well. Other person who was going to go in now has to go to another client to deliver something. Why we've agreed to it I have no clue.

So while everyone else is dealing with real problems, my screen died after smelling it burning and fizzling a couple days ago, so I have to remote desktop from a macbook in the same room to a Dell Precision workstation running CAD/CAM software as my Mac dies horribly attempting to do that with the GPU disabled because it melted (strawberry float you Apple).

It works surprisingly well but took strawberry floating all day to (1) download and install Office 2011 (with a license) for Mac which then just doesn't include remote desktop client for no reason, even though that's listed in the package (2) try some other open source app which does nothing even when the credentials are correct, (3) get sent round in circles trying to download MS' client which is on strawberry floating iTunes of all places, and only supports recent macOS (it's actually someone else's app they just bought out), (4) piss about with some overkill app called Remote Desktop Manager but actually seems able to manage every single possible kind of "remote work" known to mankind which is needlessly confusing. Just connect to my strawberry floating PC goddamnit, this gooseberry fool used to be easy when everyone used Windows XP lol.

I guess I can be fortunate I know computahs.

I'm already 3 days behind from just feeling gooseberry fool and needing to sort out a machine to make 100% sure this job goes well, because it's £2k in revenue I really need.

The screen still works just switches off once it goes to a 1920x1080 resolution for strawberry float knows reason. I can't be arsed to buy a screen right now, it's just some shitty old telly. Guess I can put that down to another self employed thing, if your gooseberry fool breaks you have to fix/replace it so no bitching about IT.

Maybe this will work out a less cluttered setup in the long run but, y'know, weird screen refreshes and latency and stuff. Anyway back the impending apocalypse, I'm going to bed. Despite all that I got some work done, I'm not sure everyone else could say the same thing, then again I don't have some banana split manager coming along and claiming that's somehow my fault.

Interview today for a job in IT development where I work.

Technically I'm a developer now but in it operations, the move will mean less varied work as I wont get to do the random stuff I do now but means I'll be in a proper developer role with career pathways and that so seems stupid not to go for it.

Just wish there was a way to keep the fun things I do now and have the progression...

Ask about that during the interview. Good luck.

As much as I slag off my employers (and they usually deserve it!), this from our American overlords is pretty decent:

No colleague should have to worry about job security. While we’re in the thick of this pandemic, your job is secure.

There will be no counting of sick days or vacation days until life returns to normal. If you’re working from home and you have loved ones to take care of, we’ll be flexible with when and how you work. If you’re temporarily unable to work from home, you’ll be paid as usual, without having to use paid sick time or vacation time.

Although it makes me wonder what's stopping me just taking the next month off as holiday. ;)

That's amazing. I'm currently sat at home worrying about work calling me up to come back in. We're just a small online retailer and the directors clearly don't care about our wellbeing so I see absolutely no reason to take myself in and endanger myself and my family. But I can't keep hiding behind sick forever, it's really stressing me out.

Not to mention I'd feel pretty shitty, mentally, going back in now and I know I'd be going back to a huge mountain of work to catch up on on top of it.

My lot have already started telling me they're running out of work to do. This is inevitable and is bound to be the case for all of them eventually.

I'm taking the approach that as long as they have all the preparation in hand, they should just make sure they're gooseberry fool hot on being able to respond to whatever does come in asap, otherwise really don't worry about it.

Problem is I'm then getting the message from above that I've got to develop 'projects' for everyone to work on  and I need to report back weekly on the work being carried out across the department. Time for a bit of bullshit! :slol:

Or you could get them to develop the next GRcade game and have a test run before launching it here.

Good I think, felt more like a conversation than an interview, as was on Skype due to virus I was able to demo the various things I’ve made in ops rather than just talk about them which I think helped.

Just got to wait and see now

I got a call today from an older lady who last week said she was a bit worried about working from home and today she called and she sounded really upset and you could tell she was struggling with the loneliness. I don't know if I did the right thing but the people she works for are really supportive so I contacted her boss (after letting my boss know to see what he thought) to let them know that she might need a little bit of extra support/contact from people as she was struggling a lot (based on what she was telling me) and they said thanks, they'll send something out later. I just sat there for like an hour after the call with her really quite worried about her. I hope that she can get the help she needs.

You did good.

I would've stuggled with this, because virtually all my usual customers are lonely and I need to get gooseberry fool done so I have to stop speaking to them.
