Just discovered someone from another department allowed our standard 5 page contract to be changed by a client into a 60 page lovecraftian monster. I keep looking through this and finding something worse I missed the first time- pro-rata refunds, termination whenever they want, mandatory meetings with the client to discuss the service, allowing the client to come audit our facilities.

I'm sure I'm the first person in this company to have read this. And yet I'm still not a lawyer.

It's completely insane. Not least because our data centres are highly restricted for security reasons- I don't even know where they are.

Sounds similar to a contact I looked over a little while ago from one of the big supermarkets. They really want no liability and all the power, it's quite hilarious how one sided it was.

What’s that got to do with Mario 3D All Stars?

I've been out of work for so long now I'm getting really anxious and nervous about getting back in the game. Feel I've lost all the confidence in my ability I'd managed to build up. Very annoying.

This happened to me - I actually ended up seeing a therapist about it (along with other anxiety related issues I was experiencing). Before that I had to quit my job as I was so stressed and felt like I just couldn't function at work. I was out of work for 8 months so was feeling very anxious about returning, especially as I quit because I felt so sub-par.

It's a sucky feeling and Imposter Syndrome is all too real. Try and keep in mind all the successes you've had when you had even less experience than you do now.

You'll be fine, but I appreciate the journey to getting to "fine" is a difficult one.

I'm also going to put in a plug for meditation (as I always do) but I'll avoid clogging this thread up. If you want to know more let me know and I'll PM you some ish.

I'm only in my second week of being unemployed now, but I feel I know the feeling already. I've had 15 interviews in the last three weeks, and the feedback I keep getting is that i've interviewed really well, but there was someone more experienced than me who they've given the job to.

No idea if that's true or not, but it sure does get you down after the fifth time of hearing it, nevermind the 15th.

Got two more lined up for this week so far so hopefully something comes along sooner rather than later...

In the mean time i've spent this week "working" on myself to get some additional skills on my CV. So far i've completed Fundamentals of Digital Marketing with Google and a Master Certificate in Business Management with Masterclass Management so hopefully adding stuff like this to the CV will help me get through more doors and get something sorted finally!

Here's my basic terms:

You pay me and I commence the order, and then I deliver it. I've probably already spent 2-4 hours, perhaps more discussing it. Don't feel I'm quite the right fit? Not sure about the projected outcomes? No biggie, hire someone else.

That's pretty much it. I'm not spending 3 weeks writing a contract and I've done far more complex things. If you want that, employ me and then fire me (preferably on something like a 4x salaried rate), whatever, I don't care. I just don't want to be jerked around. There's a lot of people who can do that instead.

Actually the last time I wrote a contract, was for a work experience person. They quit after one day because they didn't feel they were "useful" enough.

Seriously though, if anyone wants to get into the business of writing contracts worth thousands etc, instruct a lawyer instead. Preferably after taking a non refundable down payment you can spend on that.

Therapist worked wonders for me for this. Was on the verge of having to quit due to stress before I started talking with her about the issues I was having. Feel much more confident now.

I'd try get on an NHS wait list as soon as possible but I know it's a bit of a nightmare to do.

I've found myself in a bit of a weird working position, wherein if I don't feel like I've gotten enough work done in a day I'll quite happily stay on after my scheduled shift ends and finish off what I'm doing at my own pace, for example today I spent a good chunk of my shift helping a colleague as I had access to a system she didn't and wanted to catch up a bit on my own work so stayed on for an hour or so.

It doesn't bother me to work on a little bit if I deem it necessary and if anything has led to the quality of my work improving as I don't feel pressured to fit everything into the six hour shifts that I do at work. It also means that if I have a bad ADD day I'm not scrambling to get anything done half-arsed before I leave. Management don't seem to agree with this way of working though, which is causing a bit of friction between me and my gaffer.

Like, I get where they're coming from. They need to make sure employees aren't taking too much on, or ruining the work life balance while we all have easy/constant access to work systems. But it's actually causing me more anxiety to be told regularly that I shouldn't be working in a way that I find more comfortable. I don't want to have to keep justifying myself - I know my work is fine, and they know it too. I just want to be left alone to work ay my own pace.

So yeah. Bit of a tl;dr rant there, sorry.

I often come in on days off to do that extra admin. I have my main job which is all production and associated shift to shift, and then they give you all these 'secondary duties' to do. I never do the secondary on a normal shift as it diverts my attention, so I leave it and come in on my own time to do it. Good thing here though, is i can just put the hours on on top.

With ADD you are entitled to a reasonable amount of extra (paid) time to complete your tasks under the Equality Act.

It's called a reasonable adjustment. A reasonable adjustment could also be very easily considered not bothering you about working slightly irregular hours, provided your work is completed to the standard expected of you. There's no argument at all against that. If they discriminate against you because of that, they're breaking the law.

They are also required to make provisions for your work environment or work patterns to cause less distraction, stress and anxiety for you, so that you can work to the best of your capability. If they are not prepared to consider any such reasonable requests, they're breaking the law.

And that's it. Don't feel bad about it. They might not know. If they know, they are wrong.

Anyone got a favoured job site? Trying to keep my eye on the market.

I use Indeed generally, it's where I found my last role.

You updated your LinkedIn in bro? Switch on the open to opportunity so recruiters know you looking.

Yeah I still switch mine to open for contract/PT work just to see what happen and I get a couple of leads DMed to me. Most of the time they want some programming environment I've never used anywhere, nor am I programmer (I was a front end developer / designer and that's it), but at least it's something. They (recruiters) cast the net surprisingly wide but it's not impossible to train up for some of these things. I mean, I did work in digital, I get leads in digital.

Probably the most relevant things I got were, web designer in a nearby city, and fabrication engineer... in a museum in Qatar.

You can also apply for jobs directly now.

Bear in mind you have to respond to recruiters to keep the option switched on, so make sure to do that ;)

I can’t stand LinkedIn but have been trying to use it more and more as it keeps popping up on job sites and application forms asking for my profile so I’ve been trying to add stuff to it as I go.

The open to opportunities green box thing does work though, I’ve been approached for interviews for about four/five roles on there since doing that.
