I think they changed it so that you could claim it even if you'd only worked from home for a single day? If that is the case then I was just going to do it as part of filling out my annual tax return

Yep, I used to get an extra 5p on my mileage from HMRC because our company doesn't pay the full amount (or something like that) and ever since then they have badgered my to fill one out every year even though I never owe them anything!

Pretty sure this working from home thing is another one of the fields that you can fill in during the standard form and it will add it into the calculation.

Is anyone able to advise how overtime affects your holiday pay.

My understanding is that with a casual contract your time off is based on your average hours over the last 3 months (or something similar to that) - so if you averaged a 5 day week of 10 hour days, then if you took a day of leave you would be paid for 10 hours.

Does this affect me if my average hours are always above my contacted minimum? I'm contracted to do 7.5 hours a day, but average between 8.5 - 9 a day most months. I get paid for this overtime, as I'm on an hourly rate so just get paid for the time I log. But my holidays I only get paid 7.5 hours, and was wondering if it was worth brining it up. (It would only be worth bringing it up if I had a legal leg to stand on, they'd call me a penny pinching banana split if I tried it just for the hell of it)

Got some really easy out of hours work today. That should be a small bit of extra pay for this month!

Great start to a Monday morning following annual leave. My Sage account access has been revoked and I don't have a single email explaining why or what has happened. All I have is an automated email from Sage with a link to re-register, however, no one has emailed me the codes or information I actually need to complete registration.

The people I need to speak to don't even start working until gone ten so I'm literally going to have to wait over an hour before I can even try to get logged in.

It just pisses me off so much that no one has bothered to advise me of the situation. For all I know it might be fine or everything could be in a mess but there's no way of knowing.

The strawberry floating incompetence of this place.

Moved into a new industry with the role I accepted at the end of August and they're finally starting to train us in the knowledge. So far i've had to do an online test which involved reading about 40 pages of text and then answering questions off the back of it and the next part i've been told to do is to work from home and read this. Unfortunately I don't take anything in from this style of learning and I can barely tell you anything that was in the 40 pages I read for the test or the 56 pages of dross i've read so far for this.

I sometimes find it difficult to absorb from this kind of passive reading of denser new subjects. Everyone is different but what has worked for me is first knowing what the broad topic or questions are that I'm required to know so that I can recognise them in the text, ie know what it is exactly i'm supposed to know as this isn't always clear from the outset. Then start reading and making succinct notes on paper or typing on computer for each section in my own words, this also helps me 'map out' different sections and how they fit together. Then verbally explaining each section so that i understand it enough to communicate its meaning to others as that means I would have some confidence in my level of understanding. It takes time but maybe it might help.

Just seen an email I shouldn't have seen in which the directors are arranging a meeting to discuss various aspects of the business. My name, by itself, was listed as the final point of discussion.

I like the implication that you're such a hot topic of conversation that your name alone is enough to imply what about you they're going to discuss.

Or it's just some odd power move to see how you'd react ("accidentally" sending this to you).

Maybe they're meeting to discuss how to reward you for your diligence and general devotion to duty?
