Sounds like they want you to do extra stuff so they don't have to do it.

I'm having to put a forecast together later to aid in the management of business jet travel over Easter. Normally do these for when we expect rich people to go on holiday, like February half-term.

Why would traffic magically increase over Easter if we can't travel abroad except in certain circumstances? :simper:

Supposed to be 22 degrees here today. I'm digging in a tent in full PPE - thick trousers, overcoat, steel toe capped boots with thick socks, gloves, hard hat, snood... Great!

I hope you're not too uncomfortable, Red.

Just heard back from the agency and I'm the front runner for the role and a decision will be made later today. I made sure to thank the guy for putting me forward whatever the outcome so hopefully he'll feed that back to the employer as well.

If I get offered the job, I'm definitely taking it but I'll be so nervous

Good luck mate. Sounds very promising if they've told the recruitment agent you're the front runner! Likely the interviewers like you best but they need the appropriate signoffs from above.

Thank you

I'm very nervous at the minute because they're going through a whole restructure, implementing new finance systems for example, which I would obviously be a big part of. I'm absolutely great at the accounting stuff I do because there are very clear rules and processes to follow but being proactive and having a hand in a big restructure is definitely going to take me out of my comfort zone.

It will be a fantastic opportunity though, and one that I'm definitely capable of, so I can't let self-doubt creep in at the final hurdle!

Sounds like it's between you and someone else, with the remaining factor now being who they can get cheaper and who can start the soonest.

Realistic but depressing  I'd just be happy with my current wage. Here's hoping we both need to give 30 days notice.

Cleared my desk yesterday, after 15 years. End of an era.

Working from home is now permanent. Woo.

Probably worth a quick look at your contract for resigning processes, as from previous less than stellar accounts they'll drag their feet/strawberry float that up too. You don't have to give a reason either, although please share any reaction/response when they realise how screwed they're going to be.

I double checked my contract and it was something like a month/30 days and it's in there that I have to give a reason. Getting ahead of myself here but I'll be trying to be as polite as possible while not doing the whole "thank you so much for the opportunities" politics. I'll be very interested to see if they're taken by surprise or not. Could go either way?

You have to give a reason? Surely "there's another company offering me a job" is reason enough? Or even "I no longer wish to work this role"?

EDIT - Maybe I should double check my contract. :slol:

I do like to write a gooseberry fool sandwich notice letter for somewhere I hate working

"Dear X

I'm writing to give you 28 days notice of my intention to leave company X, with my final day being on XYZ, as per my contract.

I would like to thank you for this opertunity and wish you all the best for the future,

Yours sincerely (I like the gritted teeth sarcasm of this)

X"

That's it. If they've been banana splits, ask for a meeting with your superior, tell them you're leaving and then hand them that. When I had to leave somewhere I hated, the guy's face after I sat him down and told him was a picture, as he thought I was bluffing for more money.

"Well I'll need that in writing! :x "

Me "I've got it in my pocket, I'll hand it to HR on the way back to my desk"

Excellent Ad. I love it

I haven't used any holiday this year either so, if everything goes ahead, I'll be making sure I use that during the notice or, if not, get paid for it.

You are still going to use the bottom wiping/toilet line when you give notice, right?

That would probably be a little aggressive, no?

Maybe I can work it in though.

God, I'm really tempting fate now. I can literally smell the gooseberry fool as fate spreads it across the bread.

I can still see the exchange now

"....... :| .........is it for more money?"

Me "Yes, a lot more"

" :x .......... :| ......... if I matched it would you stay?"

"No"

"Fuuuuuuuuu"

He didn't talk to me for the remainder of my notice period. He did however send emails saying I should stay as he'd spent a lot of money on my laptop"
