The guy who's organising this meeting is very much one of those people who has no lives of their own and wants everyone to be back in the office during a strawberry floating pandemic because he's been in the office for months and wants someone to talk to.

Get to strawberry float.

Yeah this sounds familiar. Another one I had was "We're launching a random catch-up session where you'll be randomly paired with someone else to talk about your day. Sign up now!". That was deleted from my inbox immediately.

FD wants to go through credit control this week and again next week. It's going to be impossible to sound like I give a gooseberry fool :|

He also suggested we have a phone call to sort through the post together and decide what needs to be kept and what can be binned. You know, that year's worth of post they just let pile up in the office. If he wants to pay me to say "bin/keep" for several hours on the phone, then that's up to him, I guess.

The guy is strawberry floating insane.

We have a 'weekly catchup meeting' which is the span of the lunch break, there's like 4 people who go every week who are essentially the managers and the partners and nobody else ever joins. I don't want to use my lunch break to speak to people from work get the strawberry float out im playing games.

I hope you have a good reason to bin the Dominos menu from last April because it says here we can get a 50% local business discount. I know it expired in June but we can probably work something out with them.

I fully expect the conversation to go that way. I just hope he doesn't bother.

I still don't understand how a business can go that long without opening the post. Like, I get something from HMRC in brown envelope (it's always a brown envelope) and open it right away. Is the registered company address somewhere else? Do they just remember all important requests for documents or renewals and stick to that like clockwork every week/month? What if they are formally served a notice or a termination or something like that in the mail? Do they just ignore it / never know about it?

I just find it very odd but quite funny the idea that nobody opens the mail there, like it's Bernard Black's shop or something. Do businesses truly transceive everything digitally now? I find that hard to believe. (Even if, yes, it is better.)

I can't work it out myself either. I can only think that someone has actually opened the post and they've dumped anything not obviously marked as urgent onto my desk. Whatever they've done, they've left themselves with a mountain of mess, that's for sure.

I mean, it took the FD almost the entire year to realise none of the credit cards had been reconciled because those statements came in via the post.

Mad.

I'm going to miss Zilnad's crazy work updates.

You not considered staying in your current job to keep everyone entertained?

Apparently I'm getting a rebate of about £22 in my next payslip from our dental benefit plan at work because the dentists were closed for most of last year due to Covid!

If this is a global pandemic then bring it on! :datass:

Haha that last part makes me feel better because I've not bothered including some of my credit card expenses in previous tax returns as I hadn't added them to my accounts software, I've since put them in for the tax year just ended though so I can claim some input VAT back (I never go back past one tax year because that's bad practice and I don't want to change my SA numbers).

I had the strawberry floating statements though, it was just such a small number of transactions I didnt want to do another account. Now I have 6 or 7 separate accounts or something including payment processors so I can account for fees :dread:

They could also download those from the bank. They generally don't go back forever so filing the paper copies is basic tax diligence as they need 6 years of paperwork in order. If they neglect that long enough then they may have no evidence some transactions ever occurred :fp:

We have a coffee morning we do every 2 weeks, no work talk is allowed and is 11 to 12 so is additional to lunch and works quite well.
Is nice to have an hour of just chatting gooseberry fool with people like we would in the office as in normal times we would sit together and that.

Woke up early for 8am meeting, nearly threw up in the shower because I twisted my shoulder and the pain was immense. Five people including myself who are supposed to be in this meeting are online. Five out of twenty.

Going back to bed.

That'll teach the organiser for arranging meetings at unreasonable times, for when many people aren't even contractually obligated to have begun work for the day.

On a side note I didn't get the PM job I applied for. Nobody did, in fact. To be fair it was in Engineering which I don't have a scooby about and that was the sole reason I got for rejection, plenty of positive feedback about my professionalism and the hiring manager offered to be a mentor, which surprised me.
