Yeah ours has announed a 5% across the board increase for all, an extra £500 bonus, and when we choose to go to the office we get £5 a day to spend in the canteen for lunch and drinks (subsidised Costa for drinks), prices are main is 3.50, tea is 60p, coffee is £1 so is super handy and saves a nice chunk for people.

FFS I've been off 3 days. Other people have been off way more and it's a very rare occurance and one caused by my anxiety which I'm now seeing a therapist for and it's going much better.

If me being off causes a major issue then it proves they need more staff. Little pissed off if I'm honest. How ridiculous that 3 days off is causing a major issue.

Sounds like they might be using the Bradford Factor, it's calculated by the total number of days off multiplied by the instances of absence squared. In your example it would be seen as the equivalent of someone taking a single 9 day long absence.

Edit: forgot the squared part. You'd get a score of 27 where the single instance is only a 9.

If it's just because they're seeing anxiety as "not a real reason" then strawberry float 'em, tell them it's vomiting or whatever else ticks their boxes in future. The last thing you want is anxiety over having to call in sick over anxiety.

Feedback amounted to I cam across really well, and they liked me, but they were concerned that teaching me the sales stuff plus the extra BMW stuff might be too much at once, so maybe try a more "basic" dealership first.

With that in mind, I've now applied to the local Ford dealership.

UPDATE: I have an interview with the Ford dealership on Wednesday.

Get in MCN. I'm sure the good word from your previous interviewer will also help!

hahaha the only senior engineer we have who they didn't make some form of manager (so the only one actually doing support) announced today he's leaving. We're gonna be so strawberry floated :toot:

Their total missmanagement really is a sight to behold. It's almost like them taking 3 peoples worth of work and giving it all to that one guy was a bad idea.

Question for the day to spark some discussion:

What is your job / Where do you want to take your career, if anywhere, and how do you plan to achieve this?

Job: Technical Evangelist

Plan: Have a new job lined up starting in December!! I am really excited about it, as I have felt stuck for a long time in my current role and this new job will be in a technical field that I don't have much experience in (lots to learn!) Ideally I want to try and get my CISSP so this might be a way to get motivated!!

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

Financial Controller for a real estate company in the agriculture industry, which I've done for just over 18 months now.

The next step would be Finance Director which isn't on the cards at my current place and if I wanted to get it somewhere else I think I would need quite a few more years experience and realistically, a few more FC roles to strengthen my case.

That suits me because a Director job would be a big step up in responsibility. I can see me staying in my current role for the next few years where I'm relatively comfortable while raising kids and when they're a bit older, start thinking more seriously about the next step.

Job Assistant Accountant

Plan fully complete my AAT qualifications over the next few years (all paid for by my current company) and then look at what my options are after that.

Compliance Monitoring Officer for an insurance intermediary (me neither). Been at the same company for 11 years and am quite comfortable where I am in both the business and the role I have. I've managed to become a very reliable and knowledgeable piece of the furniture, I live 10 minutes from the office, have plenty of flexibility with working from home, good team of people and very little in-job pressure to worry about (famous last words :slol: ).

I had the opportunity to move up to the Head of Compliance role at the start of the year but turned it down as I just didn't want the additional responsibility and stress that would come with that, I'm just not that Type-A go-getter that is always looking to climb the ladder. I've always had the "work to live, not live to work" mentality, and so I can't really see my career changing all that much for the next few years, which suits me just fine.

We're pretty similar (I even worked as a Compliance officer for City of London!). Having been pushed into that higher stress role previously, partially due to societal expectations, it really strawberry floated my mental health.

I'd much rather be comfortable and get fulfillment elsewhere thanks.

Commerce mortgage underwriter

It pays the bills and allows me to go on a few holidays per year. I have no real desire to climb the corporate ladder, that's not for me.

Down.

We'd been on 2 days since last September- one set team day, one day of our choice. About a month ago they changed it to two set team days. And now, after an office-wide survey where everyone said that was gooseberry fool, we're down to one.

Better answer my own question, I suppose.

I'm an Assistant Project Manager (APM). My company (utility sector) has a reasonably straight-forward career progression path for people in our field - if a Project Manager (PM) leaves, they will look to replace them by promoting one of the APMs (where appropriate, depending on capability of course). If a Senior PM leaves, same deal except they look to promote a PM. So the progression is there if I want it.

The company has also committed to getting people Chartered (ChPP) at no cost to employees which is great, again, it's there if I want it (albeit some years away).

Software Developer (Java and .Net, Microservices and Cloud), aim eventually I think will Architecture. I think I could blag the role now but would mean less coding so I’ll hold off for now. Next step is Senior which I am hoping to have soon and if I don’t it soon I’ll be leaving for a different company at the end of my degree.

Job: Archaeologist, currently doing a PhD in collaboration with a public heritage body in Scotland. I also work as a freelance copyeditor for a table-top miniatures wargaming company on the side.

The plan: Finish the PhD and work for that public heritage body (or its English equivalent) if I'm lucky, as an archaeologist in some capacity. If not, find a post-doc (would have to be in the North East/Scotland) or go back to commercial archaeology, perhaps in post-excavation to reduce working away. I'm not interested in a long-term academic career unless it's completely research based.
