What is it doing if you don’t mind me asking?

It's basically data entry. I look through lists, pick out information then input it.

Ahh cool, tbf it’s not far off what I do in Accounting  not dealing with the public is a big plus though for sure. Hopefully you’ll end up liking it more as you get on.

Thanks, I hope so too. I don't have as much of the dread in starting work anymore. And that to me is worth a lot. I can't remember the last time I was in a job that was like that.

Well this aged well...

Works Xmas do tonight. :msgreen:

We're planning to be out all night (pub, meal, pub, club) getting so hammered we'll still be paying for it on Monday, except this one miserable old boy who would probably prefer to attend via VR..

I "joined" a new company yesterday. I didn't change jobs, but got shoved over to a new employer.

Which is fine, my job hasn't changed at all and I don't really care who my employer is as long as I get paid.

But I just had to submit background checks and right to work stuff as my old company didn't port that over. strawberry float me what a faff. :fp: I don't have a passport at the moment and so spent an hour tearing the house apart trying to find my birth certificate and a document with my national insurance number on.

It was a huge pain in the arse for me, I can't even imagine what it's like for foreign born people. strawberry float the racist bastard government.

I had to do background/reference checks for new employees.

It sucked. No I mean that was the whole company, that's literally all they did. All day. Forever.

I was once checking if some rando guy in their 50s got their couple of O-levels from an obscure school in a remote location in the North of England*. Like actually ringing them up and emailing them.

Yes, pointless.

* This is very, very far away from the South of England.

Past the honeymoon period for my new job and I'm dangerously bored by it. So much so I keep making really stupid errors. I think I need to move.

Racking up quite a few 'Happy New Year's in replies to emails I've sent that haven't included it. Can't help but infer a bit of sass :slol:.

"Oops, sorry, yeah HNW to you too, whatever (although if I meant it I would have put it in my original email)."

At least it makes for a replacement "I hope your well hun x" for the first couple of weeks of the year, I suppose.

Decided to make a big change and have been applying for jobs in London and York. I'm currently in North East England and always have been. Spent ages doing applications over the Christmas break so will hopefully get an interview or two and see what happens.

https://www.gov.uk/flexible-working/applying-for-flexible-working

Employees can apply for flexible working if they’ve worked continuously for the same employer for the last 26 weeks. It’s known as ‘making a statutory application.’
From 6 April 2024, employees will be able to request flexible working from their first day in a new job.
All employees have the legal right to request flexible working. Employees can request a change to:
the number of hours they work
when they start or finish work
the days they work
where they work

Im currently 3 days in office, 2 at home. I would prefer 3 at home, and i want to try this in April. Anyone else know anything more about these new rights?

With absolutely no real good reason after 4 years+ of being fully remote I now have to go back to the office 2 days a week. This strawberry floating sucks so much.

I just wasted 2 days in there and they sprung the news on me today that it'd be every single strawberry floating week. What a huge waste of time.

They just want people in the office so people can collaborate more.

I know it's only 2 days but I feel like I've been kicked in the stomach. I feel so strawberry floating depressed atm. What a waste of time seriously.

Probably worth speaking to your union, if you're not in one then call ACAS (free work advice).

Great news for the shareholders of office real estate companies though.

Seriously though, that sucks. And is completely unnecessary.
