I know right?! Luckily I was a little pissed off last week and have some interviews next week, but I’ve put so much effort into that place and so many processes and ideas that leaving feels like leaving part of me behind :( but yeah, I can’t stay there after that, I feel almost too embarrassed to even go in tomorrow.

Thank you for the sound advice. Will go ahead for this interview anyway.

I thought the normal excuse for paying junior employees gooseberry fool was because paying more would upset the older staff? Apparently you need to be more hip and edgy and your ideas while they work are just too boring. Alternatively, leave.

I would go in but it is time to seriously start looking around for a new job so that you can get out of there as soon as possible.

What a bunch of wankers.

It has been utterly diabolical the last 4 days. My colleague who left on Friday meant we were one down and he used to do a decent number of tickets, then the other person who did a decent number has been off all week (first 2 days holiday, second 2 days god knows) and it's meant that I've been doing the job of 3 people. I got caught up with a call yesterday to one huge asshole for over an hour and it made me want to just walk out of the office there and then. I couldn't take it anymore.

Thankfully I got a call shortly after with one of my favourite clients who speaking to makes me happy for some reason. He reminds me of one of my uncles so maybe that's why, but speaking to him made me realise it wasn't all bad and after that the day seemed to go a bit better. To give you an example of how much work I've done. When I first started the company getting over like 60 tickets in an entire week was a rare occurance. By 12PM on Wednesday I'd closed 80 tickets and annswered over 110 phonecalls. :dread:

I suffer from anxiety at the moment and spent the night up with that, but I went in.

Hopefully one of the interviews next week turns into something.

Well, my colleague has decided to leave, as my boss sent me a message to tell me the sad news, I of course replied with "I guess a £12k pay rise for her wasn't enough".....it's been three hours and I've not had a reply :dread:

Brutal, but necessary unfortunately.

For the first time in 4 years I'm thinking of leaving my place and looking for new pastures.

A meeting this week basically made our entire team feel completely unappreciated. We've been saying for a little while now that we want more work, that the stuff that comes to us normally isn't enough. The response we've eventually got is that management won't help us find any additional work and if we want any then it's completely up to us to go around asking other teams for it. What the hell is the job of a manager if not to get work for the people they manage?
We also put together a proposal for modifications for our shift pattern, since they've been saying they want less cover at weekends and more cover in core business hours and they put on us to come up with an alternative proposal. The proposal was completely dismissed out of hand and we were essentially told that if it wasn't Monday-Friday 9-5 then it wasn't going to be accepted. So what was the point of asking us to come up with alternatives then?

The attitude was utterly terrible, and a manager I've had a fairly high estimation of in 4 years has gone completely down in the space of an hour.
There's also a few hints being dropped that after 4 years they're suddenly going to start wanting daily reports of all the work we've done that day. strawberry float that. I've not worked this hard and come this far to start being treated like a strawberry floating child that needs to account for every second of every day.

At the very least I'm going to be looking to get out of my current department, as I do like working for the company since the pay and benefits are great. But I'm also going to be keeping an eye open for opportunities at other big companies.

Working on a Saturday :dread:

My manager never came back. Last update was that she'll be off for "another few weeks". She's incompetent so I hope she never returns.

Don't feel too bad about it because depending on company size, it is very difficult to get out of cycle increases for people which seems very odd when a company can spend plenty of money elsewhere. I found myself in a similar situation to you a year ago and although I raised it immediately, it fell on deaf ears. I did start looking for another job but this can actually be quite difficult as requires a massive amount of effort and if you work long hours it is hard trying to motivate yourself.

I came up with a strategy to get the company to give me a pay rise and it worked, but it is not without risk and you need to be confident that you are actually worth the money. If you want to stay where you are but want a fair increase, let me know and I'll PM you with what to do....

suzzopher wrote:strawberry floating furious! So a week ago I went to my bosses about a pay rise as I’ve noticed that for my position I’m about £10K under paid, so tried to get at least a £7k pay rise, of course the usual we can only do inflation as the budget is tight blah blah blah, then a junior member of my team has been offered a new job paying the going rate for my level of skill and experience which is great but my bosses countered her offer with the same salary despite saying the money wasn’t there.

I only know this as I get on well with her and helped her with interview techniques and have trained her up pretty well. I don’t think I’ve felt this little value to my position in any job.

I'd be going to a solicitor if I was you. Claim it is age discrimination, and that you should be getting paid the same as others doing equal level of work. You will also be able to get it back dated. Don't strawberry float around. Put a grievance in ASAP.

I think I have just upset my boss by saying I am not going to the 'teambuilding' event :dread:

He asked if I was going, to which I hummed and hawwed, and didn't really answer

he then states: "Its obligatory"

I answered back: "But not mandatory"

strawberry floated it.

It's not like it is proper team building anyway, it's gardening at some children's hospice (and before you cryout that I am a hartless bastard let me point out that I am infact a hartless bastard who only cares about myself.)

Also, if he wanted the team to bond so much why not get everyone I to the office 5 days a week instead of 2.

I am literally the only person in the team who is in the office every working day.

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

Obligatory but not mandatory, I'm going to steal that.

First day back in work after a week and it's just like I haven't had any time off.

I absolutely hate how this place is run now. It's fast becoming the worst job I've had. Nothing is ever anticipated or double checked. I'm getting really irritated having to sort out other people's error's, and dealing with demanding customers to boot. Plus strawberry floating managers wanting to know what I'm doing if it looks like I've been off the phone for more than 5 minutes.

So shite.

The secondment I'm on ends in December and I'm not going to bother extending it if it's offered as I'm the hardest working person on the team but I'm on the lowest salary.

Due to a restructure the promises of being made permanent and given more money have sidelined but I'm still allocated the most work on a monthly basis.

My old job is easy but I would be getting the same salary as I'm on now without the ridiculous work loads.
