I am currently carving a crab.

No, not that kind, the kind made of wood.

Ok, seriously, how do you find a new job. I just keep getting rejected with blanket statements, and people refuse to give you feedback. I'm only finding about 2 or 3 jobs a month to apply for at most. I've had people help me with my CV and personal statement. I just want a job that pays enough so that I can get a mortgage, but doesn't make me want to kill myself. How is that so difficult. I'm running a project worth over £1m, I must not be a complete idiot.

I haven't really posted in months as I have been working my arse off training in my new job as an Emergency Ambulance Crew - Think "Ambulance" on BBC1. I start properly in 2 weeks and I am absolutely cacking myself and at the same time, ridiculously excited to get started after 6 months in a classroom. Anyone else work in this capacity here ?

One of my friends at work left today. Sucks man. Also someone threatened to walk out as well but I think they talked her out of it.

Things haven't been good again, a new guy joined the day I flew back from LA and left the end of the next day so I never met him. He left because he came in and he got 0 training or attention from anyone. He had huge amounts of experience and losing him was someone we were waiting for for 3 months. God damnit :(

Just continues to make me want to strive to get into eSports and as far away from support as possible.

Who the strawberry float leaves after a single day in a new job? Sounds like you’re not missing much.

This is bizarre. I'd say 3 of the 4 new jobs I've started, my first few days they weren't at all prepared for me and left me sitting at my desk reading whatever they could find for me to read. Training came gradually as I eased in. Leaving after a day because you didn't get enough attention sounds ridiculously self-centred.

Yeah being somewhat left to your own devices for a few days is not all that unusual (depending on the nature of the job obviously!) so this response does seem to be somewhere in the throwing toys out of the pram territory.

Our place has been fairly terrible at "onboarding" people for most of the time I've worked here. It's certainly hard to have everything lined up for day 1 to enable someone to hit the ground running as there are going to be lots of logistics to sort out, HR stuff, housekeeping bits, maybe equipment to procure and over etc. so I can understand why this is often the case, but it can be annoying if it drags on for too long!

The first day of a new job is usually HR packed, it was most of my first week in fact at this new place. All my stuff was ready for me though so if I was given things to do I could get on with it.

At the printers I ended up at after mad catz they didn't even have a CHAIR for me until 2 weeks in :fp:

My landlord sorts out all my chairs, no problem.

I like it, when I came here the manager intentionally set nothing for the first 3 days, I just shadowed him effectively to meet people and get a feel for the place then on day 4 actually got something assigned to me to do (In the case of my current job that was "Create a Windows Deployment solution).

Works well in my opinion, this guy is clearly a man baby.

Honestly, it's diabolical right now, he got out while he could and I respect that.

Apart from the usual customer nonsense, how can support be diabolical? Are you giving support on something you have no idea about?
If so, being a customer of support, I assumed that was the industry norm. I only call up for the hold music.

Usually it is down to management.

Generally support know what their doing or at least most of the people on the desk do, there is always one who is a useless heap mind.

Generally things being crap for support peeps comes down to someone / managers not doing the following:

Not viewing call numbers to determine accurate staff levels leaving to people being over worked

Crap structure so everyone is fielding calls so there isn't time for the more complicated call back type stuff

Crap process so everything get "logger and flogged" to 2nd line without minimum data sets and triage

Crap process around first line fix with no empowerment of 1st line via a desktop management suite to apply fixes and software etc. Directly over the phone avoiding calls having to go to 2nd line in the first place.

It's a bit like this where I am right now and I've been fighting constantly to improve it and hlget processes in place to get 1st line fixing simple stuff via or desktop management suite as they don't need much skill to do it but it will make a big ass difference to it and the customer.

Too many tickets coming in for us to realistically deal with them all. Everyone really stressed and clients being complete fuckwits and being completely impatient and ridiculous with the stuff they're coming to us with which adds to the problems

Errkal first line at our place are completely different. We actually know what we're doing. We'd all easily be second line elsewhere.

How long do you think people work at Camelot's I.T. support centre before they stop making I.T. lottery ticket jokes?
