As part of our annual flex benefits (e.g. buying/selling holiday), this year my work is offering tech products paid for monthly through salary sacrifice. This means you make a big saving as you’ll be paying less national insurance.

I’m not really in the market for anything but was having a look and noticed that the tech stuff is being provided through “Stormfront”.

Am I working for a company affiliated to a neo-Nazi organisation? :dread:

I found that out afterwards but still, why the strawberry float would you call your company “Stormfront”?

They're Scottish, I believe that they've been around longer than the neo-nazi website.

Due to the fall in the pound they went broke and got bought by an Irish company so they might rebrand at some point if you're lucky.

When you're waiting on someone to get work over to you so you can finish it off and they take all day :x Come on, it's a Friday. I should have everything done and be clock watching by now!

Lol try waiting for whole corporate structures to get back to an external supplier with a simple yes/no or one line of words or a URL, a process which can somehow take weeks or months.

My line manager was telling me how I'm and all her team are her customers. I mean what the hell.

So if I don't like my manager I can move to a new team, can I do a 30 day trial, what if I don't like the next team I'm on?

Im not my managers customer, I literally don't get it.

Here is an interesting one.

Has anyone ever reported a colleague for concerns over alcohol? I'm a bit unsure about what to do. I am a bit biased, but I believe my colleague has an alcohol problem. I know she drinks extreme amounts, binge drinks most nights, and often comes into work a little bit delicate. Thing is, I can't prove it.

I had a situation a few weeks back where I KNEW she was hungover. She didn't drive to work (she always drives) she smelt of booze, and she wasnt listening to a word i was saying during shift handover. Thing is I'm not really sure how to go about it when I have no hard evidence. This is also a girl who used to be my friend and has since treated me terrible, so I wonder if personal bias is coming into play?

We all do it or have done it, the environments we work with the military do involve lots of social drinking and sometimes it gets out of hand. However, this person in particular I feel takes the piss far too much. I know she drinks every day, I know a 'quiet' night for her is four or five drinks. And I know (but have no evidence) that she will occasionally have gin and tonic whilst on night shifts.

Do most companies have something to raise a concern where you remain anonymous.

I have mentioned it to my manager (i didnt include the drinking on shift bit) but my managers line is always 'I can only get involved if welfare is involved.'

I personally feel that it's getting to the stage now where she is taking the piss, she's becoming a liability and doesn't respect her job. She also damages the companies reputation as she drinks until 5 am with the customer and has a reputation around base as a party girl. Hmmm it's complicated.

My advice you in your situation (isolated) is to just focus on you. Stop investing in what your callow colleagues are up to.

That’s a bit much, it’s not up to you to protect your employers reputation.

If you have concerns about her health or it’s negatively effecting you, then you might have a point.

We’ve got a bloke at work who’s obviously an alcoholic. He’s never falling over drunk but is always a little tipsy. As far as I know he does his job though so I don’t give a gooseberry fool.

Exactly what the job involves and what any potential risks are for when someone is performing the job from a compromised position would be are obviously a factor in how big a deal this is. I think if someone were routinely arriving to work hungover then most employers would at least have a word with them.

That said based on previous comments on here about your situation I'd be tempted to go with the "keep your head down and just sort yourself out" advice.

yeah dude look after yourself

if it affecting your handovers just make sure you leave detailed instructions and maybe just log what is happening if it is a major concern.

that way if anything happens when she takes over, you will have already cover your arse.

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

That's not your concern. Your company doesn't care about your reputation so why do you care about it's reptuation?

If you have concerns for her health sure, but worried she might make the company look bad? I wouldn't get involved.

Of course you're all right. It's just night shifts and isolation in this place. She is literally the only person i've spoken to today wedged between two night shifts. It's hard when you just get such cold responses when you're trying to be a nice person. I still don't actually know what I did wrong 9 months later. Probably reporting her for being an alcoholic wouldn't go down well in her books though xD

Send an anonymous email to all members of staff, including yourself. And just say what you want to say - can be very effective (i've done it before). Use a secure email such as Proton mail ( i think). And use a VPN just in case.

This would be bad. Qikz you're right. I don't give a gooseberry fool about the companies' reputation. But I do know that the company cares about it as it's written down in all the rules and regulations etc.

Curls

You seem to be someone that needs interaction and craves the acceptance of others. The major problem in your life is that you cannot get that in your current employment because you're isolated in every conceivable way. You appear to be surrounded by people who are either stronger than you or simply don't value you.

My recommendation to you is to bin it all off and start afresh somewhere else that better suits your social needs.
