I don't want to go back, but then I have 3 - 4 hours of commuting a day.

Line in my mid year review today from senior management was "We have spent far too much effort and money to get everyone working at home to drag them all back in now" which I thought was a good line and a good sign :D

I've gone to book holiday today using the online work Portal, and noticed I'm missing holiday days.

Apparently they've deducted 1.5 days from our holiday balance for each month we were furloughed.. that can't be right/legal can it?

Maybe they did it based on the salary which represents less x days worked?

Or should it be based on whatever x hours you would normally have worked?

I guess it depends if it's taken as a calculation of your hours/days worked (which it should be imo) or the pay derived from that.

Now I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I'm going to wildly speculate anyway.

Sounds like in their mind you didn't accrue holiday while you were furloughed, so removed the amount you would have build up.

But if this is their reasoning, then it's bollocks (if you only get 20+8 days a year):

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/holiday-ent ... s-covid-19

Furloughed workers
Workers who have been placed on furlough continue to accrue statutory holiday entitlements, and any additional holiday provided for under their employment contract. Use the government holiday entitlement calculator to calculate a worker’s statutory holiday entitlement.

While they could have asked you to use holidays, it needs to be clear, but would still be at 80%

An employer should not automatically pay a worker on holiday the rate of pay that they are receiving while on furlough, unless the employer has agreed to not reduce the worker’s pay while on furlough.

If a worker on furlough takes annual leave, an employer must calculate and pay the correct holiday pay in accordance with current legislation - see the standard guidance. Where this calculated rate is above the pay the worker receives while on furlough, the employer must pay the difference. However, as taking holiday does not break the furlough period, the employer can continue to claim the 80% grant from the government to cover most of the cost of holiday pay.

Seems there quite a bit of info on that page which could be interesting for you to read, if you're really bored.

I was thinking that, as long as you are over the statuary minimum there isn't much legally, maybe a Union might say something but it depends how you "earn" the leave etc

My place has given everyone an extra 5 days as reward for working so hard to keep everything on track during lockdown.

I'm already due to carry over 4 days (annual leave year ends on 31 July) so next year I'll have 41 days + bank holidays, which is pretty wild.

Lots of software let's you mute other people, and it didn't tell them you were the one to do it.

Suddenly getting asked a question when I've not been listening because I've been whining on GRcade.

This was fantastic advice, thanks. Passed it today. It is straightforward but the app is invaluable.

Had to go to Sunderland for the test :dread: I don't think the test centre had seen a woman in many a long year, there were just lots of massive blokes nervously shuffling about in the waiting area.

Or:

"Sorry Mori, you cut out there for me. Must be my connection!"

Bit of a risk if they then suddenly cut out for real during the second attempt because you're now the one holding up the rest of the meeting.

I've been asked to attend an interview of sorts with a US company, with the interview taking place over zoom. We've had several back and forths, with an option of two slots being given, and I picked the one that is this evening. But since saying I'd be able to attend that, I've heard nothing at all back, no confirmation or response. What am I supposed to do with that? Just dress up and sit in front of my laptop all evening on the off chance someone gets back in touch with details of how to actually get to and take part in this? :|

Drop them a line/Touch base to request confirmation that the interview is going ahead at the stated time and emphasise the need for a quick response due to the time difference.

Thanks, I've just done that. It's not for a job per-se, but its important.
