On a group work chat today and the topic was brought up about being reimbursed for things like electricity whilst having to work from home. We were told we had to work from home and the office was closed throughout the lockdown and only now they are starting to let minimum amount of staff back in (we are talking a maximum of 3 people per 20 people teams)

I've not actually thought of this before, are there any rules or law for this sort of thing? Should companies cover these costs as expenses? Just something that has intrigued me now its been mentioned

It will depend a lot on the place you work - where working from home is already a thing within a company they may already have policies in place that cover these kinds of expenses, but as COVID has forced the situation on so many people so quickly I imagine there are lots of companies that simply have nothing in place to handle this situation.

I can’t think of anything worse, a few groups I’m in along with work had similiar things across lockdown. And after the first I never Attended again.

I don’t mind them in a pub setting, but I can’t stand sitting at a screen on zoom I feel more awkward & uncomfortable.

I'm so fed up at the moment. I get asked to create a complex document that is needed for product certification (so really important), don't get given all the information even after repeatedly asking for a long time, then when it's needed, I get made to feel like I've done something wrong by this document having gaps in it. I don't know this product, I can't just magic up technical information to get it through cert

Just to be 100% clear 12 years was a joke. Your mate should look into this as a potential choice though as it's essentially research and recommendations. Plus public sector is cushy af - I work 8-3.45 and get 28 days holiday in my entry level position.

(Actually, things have been a bit better these last few weeks after my manager asked me why my morale was low (we have to give a number out of 10 each day, and I was constantly giving a 3) and I explained that constantly being given too much work, with vague deadlines and requirements, and his attitude regarding us not hitting targets that only exist in his head - which also didn't take into account, or even pretend to consider, our vast backlog or how long the tasks should take on a good day - were the main reasons.
He's been separately told by other managers to stop micromanaging us as much.
Time will tell how things will be going forward.)

I have been inordinately fortunate with my line managers - I am yet to have a problem with any of my past managers or the current one - though this is partially because I take the line manager into account when considering whether or not to apply for a role. If I don't respect the line manager then I don't apply, even if it's a good job. It just isn't worth dealing with on a daily basis.
