Its good if you want to leave Europe for holidays, as once you start going further afield you need more time for it to be worthwhile.

Yeah for sure.

I always take 2 weeks off at a time when possible. Off for two weeks just now, then similar to you Tomous have 2 weeks off at xmas. Would normally be far afield just now but the xbox is saving me!

I'm lucky that I'm so dispensable in my job that I could take long periods off without really having to fight for it. It meant I could use it on extended holidays.

Now I only work Saturdays using leave becomes a pain. I'm doing uni work during the week full time, but I'm loving it and it doesn't feel like work. Then I get towards the end of the year, forget I have the leave then have to take a month and a half off. Because I don't feel safe going in during lockdown (staff aren't wearing masks now customers aren't allowed in, social distancing seems more like a suggestion) I've taken a few weeks off, I'm saving the rest for the run up to exam period next year

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

My brother enjoys mentioning he gets all of December off and I can barely get 3 days off in a row.

Back when I worked a 4 on 4 off shift, combined with my holidays I actually only worked for 5 months of the year.

Now I only get 8 weeks a year off

Hi Tomous

Wasn't aware you were off for two weeks! Hope you have a good break.

Because you're away for so long, would it be an issue if you kept your mobile with you? Presumably you'll be monitoring emails during the absence as well?

See you when you get back.

Maybe the GR tech Wizards can help me?

I have a Lenovo laptop plugged into the TV for a zoom call. Every other sound plays fine out of the TV speakers and yet zoom insists on playing out of the laptop speakers. This would be fine except the volume is really really low. Any advice?

I've got the windows volume at max and it detects my Panasonic TV as the speakers when connected via HDMI. If I play a YouTube video the sound comes out of the TV no problem.

Zoom settings will have an option for which speakers to use, open the settings and change it

I am in the late-stages of planning out the launch of my own business! Business plan and P&L are finished, shareholders on board verbally, suppliers identified and spoken with, business insurance and legal quotes secured.

For those of you on the forum who own their own company, I'd be really keen to speak with anyone who's prepared to give me any advice and guidance for the potential pitfalls I could look to avoid. Of particular interest is any start-up grants/support I might be eligible for.

Happy to go into detail privately with anyone who can spare me 15-20 mins to discuss.

I find this incredibly useful compared to gooseberry fool like Teams because you can change you devices on the fly, including if some gooseberry fool isn't working. This technically means you can set up multiple views or webcams if you are demonstrating or presenting stuff.

You can change teams on the fly too, click you profile put and settings and it's under there.

Are you able to share with us what the business is out of interest? Understand if you don't want to at this point.

You've chosen a great time to launch a start up-middle of global pandemic and the start of Brexit! But seriously good luck to you, have a lot of admiration for people who go out on their own like that.

For now I can say it is a bespoke furniture business :D Should be able to share full details with the forum by early 2021 once the website is live and IP is protected. Thanks for the good wishes.

Interesting that you're launching a bespoke furniture business 6 months after Animal Crossing releases.... ;)

Might not be quite what you're after but my boyfriend is getting advice and support on things like running a business and where to access finance and so on from a regional 'growth hub' in the north east, which is aimed at local high potential start-ups. It's part of a local enterprise partnership which is ultimately a government thing. There might be something where you are based that could meet some of your needs. I don't really know the ins and outs but it's been helpful for him and he got the impression it was undersubscribed.
