Just out of a meeting where everyone was talking excitedly about being back in the office full-time by June and it made me feel sick :( thinking about losing all the personal time I've gained, the cost of the train, the ability to take breaks whenever I like, do things around the house, not worry about working late because I know I'm finished and at home the second I sign off. Just everything really.

I don't want to go back to normal .

I'm starting a new job Monday and will be in the office for the first time in a year for the induction. WFH after that until summer but I've been told they're planning a 2-3 day a week split between office and WFH permanently which I think will give a nice balance.

I would really struggle returning to 5 days a week in the office at this point.

I've been looking at jobs and would refuse to take a position that wanted me in 5 days a week (unless utterly ludicrous salary).

It represents an inflexibility at this point that I would take as reflective of the organisation.

Thankfully my work is converting a lot of our offices to be used for other purposes, so seems this WFH train will keep going.

This is how I feel but, unfortunately, it looks like the majority of positions I've seen are still expecting everyone to return to offices full time so I don't have the luxury of being choosy. It strawberry floating sucks and I can feel myself falling into a black hole. Losing all the good aspects of WFH for no good reason really makes me wonder what the point of it all is.

What industry are you in? It seems about 50/50 with marketing roles.

I work in accounts. Unfortunately it's all I have experience in.

There's no reason at all accounts can't be done entirely remotely with platforms like Xero and other cloud accounting suites. I know I've mentioned it before and it's not for everyone but have you thought about establishing your own practice maybe with some other accountants, or joining an accountancy?

I'm configuring a system for systematically hoovering up public tenders and job postings etc via RSS feeds and ditching anything they mentions the word offices. So much can be done remotely these days and there really are more remotely based positions out there than ever. Plus my disability would require reasonable adjustments anyway meaning there's pretty much no point working for an inflexible organisation and having to go through an access to work grant which past experience tells me isn't worth dealing with anyway.

It is actually awful decision making forcing everyone back into the office. Even if you don't care about employee happiness and work efficiency, offices are not cheap to run. The savings from downsizing are huge.

Someone from LinkedIn just got in touch with an opportunity that offered 3 days a week in the office post-COVID, felt a bit ridiculous turning them down because that isn't flexible enough for me

At this point I don't think I'd want to be in the office more than once a week.

I wish all us office haters could work together in a WFH business utopia. Anyone got the brains to start one and hire us all?

I genuinely can't imagine having to go back to the office. It's stressful, it's such a huge waste of time and I work way more efficiently at home anyway.

My employer surveyed everyone about returning to the office around a month ago. Generally speaking, the people that would prefer to be in the office will be given that preference as best as possible, but they would like each office-based employee to make the effort to pop in a couple of times a month at the minimum, which I felt was reasonable.

No idea what their actual plan is yet though.

At the very least I've told my manager I'd like to ditch the 9-5 slog. I wouldn't mind going into the office one or two half-days per week.

If I don't turn a net profit (during a pandemic, huh) and start optimising my business processes this year then I'm gonna have to start questioning all these investments!

I'm far too stubborn to pour money into advertising or even promote half the stuff I do. It's super hard to advertise services organically at the moment though.

I just don't want to spend all day posting on social media. Might go shopping for a VA. Ideally it would be great if I could just dump a load of high quality photography and video content together with some brand guidelines and crib sheets and just have someone else do it, but it's really hard to track KPIs against an hourly rate for something like that especially when I could do it myself for free. I'm just sick of laptop screen time lately, I need to make something big but I need projects to do that.

I had a giant box of almost 100 shirts arrive today so I'll be doing that but it's only two day's wage in all so I won't want those sitting around for long or I'm just willingly working slowly on below NMW.

Considering my knowledge around SEO/SMM maybe an apprentice through a local college isn't a terrible idea. Isn't the government still funding them as part of Covid-19 relief too? I think they're pretty much requiring ongoing employment from that though, which would only make sense if I actually saw considerably increased sales as a consequence. Or it's just another big overhead that balances out at nothing at the end of every year.

I post adverts on my facebook business page about twice per week. I often use the same advert for a few weeks. And i post it to 25-30 groups each time. Takes 10-15 minutes. Maybe half an hour with a new advert. I get 50% of my work through free facebook 'adverts'.

How's your Google My Business page looking? I have a guy that promotes my business on it for £70 per month, he's brilliant, transformed my profits. I can put you in touch with him if you want? I cant recommend him highly enough.

I think i probably get 30-40% from that. And my website not so much yet, i think it needs a bit more promoting from me.
