The crowd reaction for the entrances and opening bell for Omega/Dragon was unreal, genuine goosebumps levels of noise. And Omega no selling it all with an “I don’t give a gooseberry fool”
I’m getting a feeling that an iron man match may be in their future with the way the match ended.

Never been a massive fan of the NBC format of starting off with the main event (I prefer the anticipation to gradually build throughout the show) but what an amazing show nonetheless. The crowd cheering and going crazy at the opening bell for Bryan and Omega sure took me back to Hogan/Goldberg on Nitro. They mentioned the crowd reaction on commentary and I’m sure Schiavone had his ‘…and the crowd erupt at the bell, I’ve never seen that, I’ve never heard that before in our sport’ line in the back of his mind at the time.

Pretty much the whole event fell like a major PPV, particularly as there’s no advert breaks for the matches when watching through Fite. Before you knew it the show was over. The crowd, the way the show looked, the match quality, this delivered on what AEW promised it would, which considering the massive crowd was extremely important. I can’t imagine anyone left the stadium disappointed, and we haven’t even seen Rampage yet .

TNT has also announced Rampage is remaining on the channel next year rather than moving to TBS, which surely means they must be very happy with the viewership that show is doing so late at night.

I've occasionally wondered since the roof was added to the Arthur Ashe stadium in 2016 why WWE didn't run a show there so it's great to see AEW give it a go and it certainly hasn't disappointed.

I’m sure I read somewhere that it may have been a similar situation to the Royal Albert Hall over here, in that the venue didn’t want wrestling (and in the case of the RAH, boxing as well) and were worried about the type of fanbase it would attract.

Yeah very possibly. I couldn't imagine Wimbledon holding a wrestling event

After watching AEW Rampage last night I decided to end the night on a high and go to bed rather than denigrate my night by staying up till 4 for Extreme Rules. Having read about it this morning I feel vindicated. WWE seemingly attempting everything possible to run their audience away producing ever goofier gooseberry fool. Made even more ironic as following Extreme Rules they had another episode of the Broken Skull Sessions with Steve Austin, in which Seth Rollins talks about wanting to get into it with Vince McMahon after having the worst Hell in a Cell match in history with The Fiend...because they booked a load of goofy gooseberry fool.

I like that AEW has brought back the graphics on the ring canvas again, another WCW tradition - clearly a minor but welcome addition to further differentiate Rampage from Dynamite. Replacing Mark Henry with Ricky Starks on commentary another good move, as was the lack of SHOUTY JERICHO.

Modern day NXT…

Ratings bombed, and dropped 30% in 18-49 year old’s from week 2. And despite this overtly fake honeymoon bollocks, the show did its lowest ever viewership for women aged 12 to 34. It’s a total disaster, basically.

The Dexter/Indi stuff is unironically funny as strawberry float but who the hell is generic mafia guy? I take it Vince just watched the Sopranos for the first time?

A bit like how Vince McMahon apparently watched Pirates of the Caribbean years late and they ended up with a pirate gimmick.

This mafia gimmick has been done a few times before from memory. There was The FBI on SmackDown in 2001 or 2, which itself was a continuation of the Full Blooded Italians in ECW, and there was The Mamalukes in WCW, where one of the guys was called Tony Marinara and if I recall ran a pizza restaurant. It was late 99, so possibly Russo era, as it sounds like something he would have come up with at the time.

There's suddenly been an abundance of uncensored low-level swearing and sex references on WWE programming again recently (bastard, bitch, bullshit, gooseberry fool) which is blatantly because of AEW. Matches involving weapons have also featured on the past 3 shows, and the women on NXT are noticeably beginning to wear less clothes. I don't know how far WWE can push it without changing the age rating but they're giving it a good go.

Only WWE could make the new NXT look like a programme for Nickelodeon and less gritty only to decide three weeks in that what the show needs is more tits and arse.

What happens with the women's titles now on Smackdown and Raw? Do they have to exchange them? Feels a bit cheap if so. I don't know why they had to name them after the brands when they could have gone for Universal/WWE like for the men.

Last year, I think it was The New Day and Street Profits did just that in a short backstage skit when they were both tag champs. And yes it was cheap and lame.

Looking at the match card for their Saudi show, the SmackDown women’s belt is on the line in a triple threat match, so maybe Sasha Banks wins and that title goes back to SmackDown.

Charlotte Flair isn’t currently on the show. I presume Survivor Series is RAW vs. SmackDown again, so she could lose it there.

Depends how creative WWE is, I guess…

The last time SmackDown was on FS1 in December last year they averaged 1.030 million viewers, and prior to that 881,000 in October. Aside from extending the show by half hour, WWE have also announced that the final half hour of SmackDown which goes against Rampage on TNT will be commercial free.

Brock Lesnar will be on the show, and they’ve booked Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch. They’re basically not taking any chances in regards to AEW Rampage beating them overall, in 18-49, or in the overlapping half hour. Rampage has been in the 600,000-700,000 range the past month, so it’s very unlikely. This Rampage is Live though, so that may make a slight difference.

Ric Flair's first major appearance since the Dark Side of the Ring allegations is apparently for a fundraiser for Donald Trump. :dread:
